Today, we passed a milestone on the Fundamentally Transforming America Highway. It wasn’t noticeable visually but audibly during the Congressional Hearing on the recently disclosed IRS abuses. The abuses where the Federal Government is targeting its own citizen’s based on their political beliefs. The following exchange between Representative Kevin Brady of Congress and the Former Acting head apparatchik of the tyrannical bureaucracy the IRS, Steven Miller, courtesy of Mail Online (emphasis mine):
“Texas Republican congressman Kevin Brady had the harshest criticism for Miller.
‘Is this still America?’ he asked him.
‘Is this government so drunk on power that it would turn its full force, its full might, to harass, and intimidate, and threaten an average American who only wants her voice, their voices heard?’
The apparatchik later went on to say in a response to a question from Rep. Tom Price of Georgia, in referring to the targeting a specific group for of Americans by IRS, that, “It is absolutely not illegal.” for it to do so. From the Daily Caller (emphasis mine):
Price: Is it illegal what they’ve done?
Miller: It is absolutely not illegal.
Price: It is not illegal what the IRS has done?
Miller: So let me understand the question. What is your statement as to what is illegal?
So the answer to Representative Brady’s question of “is this still America?”, I suppose is geographically, yes (if you’re not counting the no-go zones of course), this is still America. Unfortunately, the answer to that question is only in the affirmative in an ever shrinking set of dimensions, and the important ones are dropping off quickly into the excluded set, like those of culture, morals, freedom, liberty.
Congratulations Mr. Obama, convincing apparatchiks that tyrannizing the citizenry is “absolutely not illegal” is indeed a Fundamentally Transforming data point in the American historical trajectory. Previously when it was done, they knew it was wrong, but not your guys. Forward.
