The Burden on Conservatives…

Sometime in the future, we will look back at the mid-term election of 2010, fully comprehending the significance of the year that led up to this one election, the election itself, and the 2 years that followed.  As we do to our founding generation and their revolutionary period, future generations will judge us by how we performed across these three dimensions.

The Federal Government has been usurping the power of the States, and the People, for over 90 years, particularly during the past 50, especially in the past 10, and painfully within the past 2.  The people can, and rightfully should, send a clear message, at both State and Federal levels, that we have had…quite enough.

The majority of Americans are against unconstitutional nationalized healthcare.  The majority of Americans do not want the government bailing-out, taking over, or favoring any particular private industry.  The majority of Americans are frightened about the US Debt, and our ability to fully recover from this economic malaise.  The majority of Americans are deeply concerned about the fate of future generations.  The majority of Americans do not trust their Representatives in Congress – particularly over the past 2-4 years.

Actions have consequences.  Progressives and Liberals, as well as Moderates and RINO’s, have bet the family farm, are about to lose it, and are overdue to receive what is coming to them.  Incumbents, such as New Hampshire’s John Lynch, Carol Shea-Porter, and Paul Hodes will be asked to leave the show.  Newcomers, such as Ann Kuster, won’t even be allowed in.

To receive an invitation to the show, and to be allowed to stay, requires adherence to the following standards:

  • The US Constitution is the law of the land, and must be followed.  We are a Nation of laws, not men.
  • The Federal Government must be scaled back to the limit of its Constitutional authority.
  • We cannot spend more than we have.
  • There should be no entitlements; only honest, rehabilitative welfare, for limited time periods, to those who truly need help.  It should always be at the State level.
  • Government exists to protect us, and to establish reasonable rules and regulations, not to interfere and inject itself.
  • Business, particularly small business, is the backbone of our nation, and must be left to prosper.
  • We must restore honor and integrity to our political system.
  • America must be protected, both home and abroad.

It is up to Conservatives, alone, to ensure that these principles are honored – and they have 2 years to show meaningful progress with each of them.  This is a tall order, and a massive burden.  We do not expect it all to be done overnight, and we realize that "things take time" in government, particularly in the hairball that has been created by both parties over the years.  But we do expect immediate action, wherever possible.  Please find a way.

Sisyphus

We realize that Moderates and RINOs will not necessarily help you (unless they see the light) and that Progressives will fight you every step of the way.  You must form strong coalitions, holding together for the common cause, no matter what.  A single crack will be exploited enormously.

It will get ugly and dirty.  You will be cutting the engines on the Progressives’ barreling freight train, and they will panic and scramble, like rats, to keep it moving.  You will attacked, ridiculed, and insulted, personally, for completely innocuous actions.  There will be Greece-like protests in the streets (mostly union-led), some riots, and much "gnashing of teeth" in the public forum.  I suggest you read Saul Alinsky’s "Rules for Radicals" to see what is coming at you – know your enemy.  Obama has already started applying these tactics, but it will become an onslaught.

Like a parent who is trying to teach a child, you MUST hold firm, remain consistent, and do not compromise, unless it doesn’t impact the desired outcome.  Have throwaways prepared.  A good percentage of the American people are now accustomed to having Government take care of them, and they expect it.  This change will be hard for them, and advocates for entitlement will make it hard for you to convince them.  This will be the ultimate case of tough-love, from societal addiction withdrawal.

Communicate, communicate, communicate.  Choose members of your caucus who can effectively express, educate, and explain the situation, along with your methods and actions.  To many, thanks to broadcast media and Progressive propaganda, you will appear to be heartless "Republicans", who want to take Police Officers off the street, Teachers out of the Classroom, and send jobs overseas.  You MUST put perspective on the situation.  You MUST get in front of the American people, regularly, and explain how we got to this point in the first place, what actions you plan to take, why you are taking them, and where it will lead us.  Paint the big picture, and remind the American people of it, every day.  If you fail to do this effectively, and proceed in cavalier fashion, you will certainly fail.

The American people want leadership.  Our President will not provide it – so you must.

As you have seen, there are people in this country who are willing to step up and take a stand.  The "Tea Party" movement, made up of myriad groups and organizations, will have your back, but only if you prove that you have ours.  We are an army of intelligent, diligent, passionate patriots, who have managed to shape public opinion and the rhetoric of many politicians.  We have provided, to those who were hesitant, an example to stand up for themselves and join the fight.  After this election, we will give reason to many, many more.  We have not gone away.

Without us, Liberal candidates would not currently be claiming to be "fiscal conservatives".  Without us, moderate Democrats would not be distancing themselves from the President’s dangerous agenda, or disavowing some of their prior votes.  We Americans have given many (if not most) politicians pause – we have forced them to rethink their policies and to second-guess their words and actions, and only the smart ones will survive this election.

The outer shell of this monster has been softened for you, and the winds have changed – you must now strike at its core – and we will certainly follow you.  Hesitation means defeat.

We are looking for your leadership and courage, to finish the fight that we started.  We will be your critical ally, if you are true to the principles we have fought for.  Fail, and we will carry on the fight ourselves, casting you aside, like a broken tool.
