It seems that the Republican Party, both nationally and locally, have a particular mindset towards the Tea Parties and their supporters. You think that you are the inheritors of their support. With respect, may I disabuse you of that false notion.
Throughout the coarse of the last administration, conservatives were routinely thrown under the bus. Spending increased; a war that should have been swift and surgical was broaden into nation building; government power was expanded beyond any reasonable, Constitutional limits, big spenders of both parties ran amok, and the southern invasion of our nation was all but ignored.
We waited patiently for the administration that we supported to come to its senses. We waited in vain!
Now, thankfully, Obama was elected. I say that because it is common thought that McCain would have veered even further afield that Bush did. He would have been “the slow poison” as we are fond of saying. With Obama, it is a full frontal assault on our values, rather than the slow, steady undermining done by a so-called friend. At least this we can see and rally against.
There are many that are calling for a third party and their voices are loud and clear. A lot of folks are paying attention. If that happens, you will loose the next elections. People have had enough of the “business as usual” method of politics. So here’s a little heads up for you- Return to your Reagan roots!
If you think for one minute that conservatives are, yet again, going to support so-called moderates, only to be thrown under the bus after the elections- you are sadly mistaken, my friends. For the first time in over a decade, you are going to have to earn our support. Pray that we do not get a better offer!
To court conservatives support, I offer the following advice;
First- Every law must be measured by a Constitutional yardstick. Period- end of story!
Second- Any repressive tax that hinders small businesses must be scaled back or eliminated. Elimination of the BET would be a good start.
Third- Every government program and department should be reviewed and its necessity verified. If it is not critical, or at least necessary, then scrape it. Government spending must be brought under control.
Fourth- Any reasonable Republican can support the right of parents to know, and have control of, their under aged daughter having an abortion. Kids can not take an aspirin without written permission from a parent or legal guardian. How is it possible that they can have invasive surgery without permission from that same source? What part of parents rights are you not getting?
Fifth- All the nonsense that is being taught in public schools must stop. Reading, writing, and arithmetic should be the main staples of any education. Any coarse that is not directly important to the proper education of the next generation of citizens should be eliminated. Instead of teaching them about saving the seals, how about teaching them good citizenship skills.
This is not a checklist that will guarantee you any support. Rather, this gives you a few ideas and a direction. You will need to sort the rest out for yourselves. Of coarse these are only my thoughts and ideas. And, after all, what would I really know about it.
I strongly suggest you begin mending your fences now, while the opportunity still exists to do so. Without those pesky conservatives, there will be no victory. Of that you can be sure!
