Jean Coutu joins us once again to preview this year’s Live Free or Die Rally (LFOD) which features, among other things, live music, camping, cannon blasts, fireworks, guns, free speech and, of course, political discourse– you know, our kind of event. Jean is a member of Citizens Alliance Against Creepy Politics (CAACP) and is active in local government and promoting the use of the Right to Know law.
The LFOD Rally is unique, as it is the ONLY all free, TRUE First Amendment Rally in the U.S. This year, it is happening on AUGUST 21, 22, 23, 2009 at The Grand View Inn, a fabulous 300 acre facility on beautiful Mount Monadnock in Jaffrey, New Hampshire.
We will discuss the rally and Jean will remind us that having an event based on the most basic human right we retain–free speech– isn’t as easy as you might think. This year, were it not for the help of (gasp!) the ACLU, there might not have been a Live Free or Die Rally

Charlie Arlinghaus is the president of the Josiah Bartlett Center for Public Policy, a free-market think tank in Concord. He also writes an always excellent column every Wednesday in the Union Leader. We will discuss the JUA Lawsuit ruling, its aftermath, and the effect on the already stressed New Hampshire budget.

Paul Mitchell has been posting his Thoughts of a Regular Guy blog since 2005. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Paul is the father of five children and holds a BA in Economics from The University of Texas at Arlington and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Interpreting and Translating from the Community College of the Air Force.
Not content with all that, Paul, a true conservative, has decided to throw his hat into the ring for a seat in the Illinois General Assembly. Only, there’s a slight problem– his primary opponent is an entrenched establishment politician. Much like last year’s Commissioner race here in Belknap County between a grass-roots activist and the local Party chair- a faux conservative, it turns out the local GOP apparatus is not all that welcoming of a platform-adhering upstart. Writes Paul,
Traditionally, the Republican booth at the Lake County Fair has been a place where all Republican candidates have been welcome to present their information and make contact with the voters. Even primary challengers to Republican incumbents have historically been welcomed there.
No more.
Two hours after I arrived at the booth this morning, with no warning, after no incident, I was informed by Avon Township Chairman Bob Powers that “[Lake County GOP Chairman] Dan [Venturi] says no candidates, elected officials only.” He handed me my small stack of handbills, the only materials I had placed on the table.
Wow! I wonder if he, like our friend Tom here in Belknap, is banned from making speeches to fellow Republicans at party functions?
Let’s face it– "Republican" doesn’t always mean "conservative" and the country-clubbers have never made it easy for us.

Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta is running in the Republican primary for NH’s 1st Congressional District seat presently held by Democrat Pelosi-clone Carol Shea-Porter. It’s been a pretty good stretch for him with the naming of Manchester by Forbes Magazine as the most affordable city in America and being designated as "on the radar" by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) this week in its "Young Guns" program which means that, according to a report by The Hill,
candidates must demonstrate a base of support, develop a media messaging plan for the race and show they are capable of raising enough money to get their message out.
We’ll find out what that all means in reality, and we’ll get the Mayor’s take on nationalized health care, the cash for clunkers program, and the Waxman-Markey cap and trade (and tax) proposal.
