Blogger mops floor with Peter Hoe Burling

Our friend Patrick Hynes made a rare public appearance, surfacing on Newsnine’s "Closeup NH" over the weekend in a "lightning" roundtable debate of the issues. Has Burling been hanging with the medical marijuana folks a little too much these days? Says Peter on the subject of tax caps:

"Tax caps tend to fail pretty quickly because they force crisis in spending frequently when it’s uttely beyond the capacity of local officials to manage."

That’s pure baloney and Hoe Burling knows it. The tax cap has worked just fine in Laconia and Franklin and, while it really should never be used, there is an over-ride clause available to the governing body should they deem it necessary. The reason pols like Burling don’t like them is it puts the onus and bright light on those that can’t work within the cap. Look at Franklin– the voters have names and faces to direct their anger when taxes go up beyond the cap, thanks to their recent over-ride.

Burling goes on to say, regarding any rebound of the economy,

"Obama’s there making a difference."

And that Governor Lynch has done a good job and been

"engaged."

He further notes, when discussing a trend of dropping poll numbers for Gov Lynch that it’s due to the drop in popularity of all government:

"Things are not easy these days… for folks that want to govern."

Dude, pass that bong over here when you’re done with it!

Watch the whole thing. Nice job Patrick! Notice unlike blowhard Burling, he knows what a 30 second clock means…
