Sorry about the coarseness in this post, but if you thought I was pissed Wednesday at the Tea Party, it’s nothing compared to how angry I got when my friend Sue sent me this story from the Concord Monitor about the "stimulus" funds to be received by Granite State law enforcement agencies. Just like the so-called "homeland security" dough we got following the events of 9/11, my reaction is still the same:
WTF!?
From the Monitor:
New Hampshire law enforcement agencies are getting almost $10 million in stimulus money that comes with many guidelines, but few restrictions.
In a time of tight budgets and rising crime, police chiefs say they’re grateful for the extra dollars, which they plan to use on everything from retaining officers to buying Tasers.
And they could get more money still in the form of police officers paid for by the federal government.
"At a time when a lot of departments in the state and towns are hurting for money, it will enable us to absorb some of the shock going forward," said Lincoln police Chief Theodore Smith, who is the head of the state police chiefs association.
And you thought that "stimulus" was about somehow helping the economy? Well, I’ve got news for you, dear readers. It’s NOT. It’s about maintaining the continued and ongoing growth of government at all costs. In our modern times, we have come to discover that today’s public employees could give two sh*ts about those hapless souls having to foot the bill.
"F*ck you!" they (metaphorically) say. "We’re gonna take whatever we damn well please, and you’re not gonna stop us!" And by golly, they’re right! "To protect and serve?" My ass! Try "to fleece and trample you." That’s a much more accurate description of today’s "public servant."
Don’t believe me? Just go to a local budget deliberation in ANY town or city, and ask the "servants" to simply give a little in the name of frugality. You’ll get run out on a rail and, well, you’d better watch that speedometer from now on, buddy!
What really boils my blood about this particular article is that it gives the "feel" that local law enforcement is making things up to spend money on, just so they can get some of it. Consider what the Laconia police chief plans on spending his new found dough for:
In Laconia, Chief Michael Moyer plans to use his allocation – more than $110,000 – on advanced firearm training and related training tools. "These are the things, if you look at civil liability and police shootings – it seems whenever there’s a shooting, there’s quite often a lawsuit out of it," Moyer said.
There are "very, very few police shootings in Laconia," he said, "but it can happen anywhere."
Now really… does it really sound like this is a huge problem in that city? The voters there enacted a tax cap, and I suspect that expending 110 grand on something as nebulus sounding as that would NEVER pass muster in the local process. But now that we’re talkin’ FEDERAL dollars, why, let’s spend it like we’ve got it!
I’m mad as hell about this and don’t want to take it any more!!!!
NO MORE STIMULUS!!!
STOP BLEEPING ME AND MY CHILDREN!!!!!!!
Man, am I pissed! Can we have another Tea Party this week?
