In an 2004 article, New York magazine reported that New York Post columnist
Andrea Peyser is the local Madame Defarge, shaking her fist as the tumbrels roll by, the Post’s class warrior, channeling populist rage and unleashing it on the likes of Donna Hanover, Hillary Clinton… In her column, Peyser is usually going for the jugular. Her list of enemies includes not only the "spoiled jerk" athletes with whom she made her reputation but the cancerous U.N., those Frenchy antiwar weasels, gay people who adopt children and/or feel legally entitled to be married, and feminist follies. Men who disappoint are feminized; after he lost to Bush, Al Gore was "the man who raids Katherine Harris’s pancake makeup supply."
Since that was written, she has released a book that has been getting some attention lately. Entitled Celebutards: The Hollywood Hacks, Limousine Liberals and Pandering Politicians Who Are Destroying America, you can well imagine what it’s about. When I came across the latest story involving Bruce Springsteen— the "communist guitar player, as my dad calls him– and his hypocritical relationship with Wal-Mart, the book immediately came to mind. We’ll get Ms. Peyser’s take on the so-called "Boss" and his latest demonstration of conscience…

Meredith resident and school board candidate Lisa Merrill thinks her fellow residents would benefit by having the school board’s meetings videotaped and aired on the public access channel, just like the town’s select board meetings. Based upon the reaction she’s getting, it seems the schoolies are a little camera shy. Gee, I wonder why? Don’t you think elected representatives would jump at the thought of allowing their adoring voters the chance to see them in action?
We’ll discuss her efforts and perhaps offer a few helpful pointers. We’ll also encourage her to spend some time explaining and spreading the word about the importance of passing SB2– the "Official Ballot RSA 40:13" in her town. It’s looking like the massive growth of new, taxable properties has run its course, the government having effectively killed the golden goose in that they’ve spent every dime. If the voters don’t claim their right to have their say in all-day voting in the privacy of the booth, the big spenders will no doubt continue with reckless abandon, having been spoiled for the last decade or so.

Doug & Skip will mix in some Gilford stuff with Lisa’s Meredith issues, as she is experencing what Gilford USED to be like many years ago until citizens stood up, having had enough, and, among other improvemnets, passed SB2…
Hour 2: Education-Palooza…
-
Ann Marie Banfield, the Education Liason for Cornerstone Policy Research, joins us once again in the studio to discuss– yes, you guessed it– education!
-
Also with us will be Mike Donnelly, who serves as staff attorney for the Home School Legal Defense Association. He represents member affairs in the states of Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, Utah, Vermont, Wyoming, the District of Columbia, and manages HSLDA’s involvement on behalf of persecuted homeschoolers in the Federal Republic of Germany. He also teaches constitutional law at Patrick Henry College where he is an adjunct professor of government.
-
Rounding out our panel will be Jim Parison, President of the Christian Home Educators of NH (CheNH). Jim is a research engineer and homeschool father of six. Together with his wife Margaret, they began homeschooling thier oldest daughter Lyudia in 1988 before home education was “legal”. Lydia is now a college graduate teaching English and Art to students in India. He has served as a volunteer on the CheNH Board of Governors since 1991. In those days he maintained a bulletin board service (BBS) and later, when the www became accessible to the public, developed the first CheNH website. Since the enactment of RSA193-A he has been involved in legislative action, educating and organizing parents across the state to participate in preserving the right of parents to train their children.

Once again, the homeschooling community is under attack. With all the problems we face in the present, why can’t lawmakers resist taking aim at one of the few areas of education that actually works? We’ll discuss two bills introduced here in New Hampshire that do just that– HB 367 and HB 368. Happily, we’ll also discuss a proposal that is GOOD, CACR 8, which reinforces the importance and necessity of local control of education.
-
Other related topics we’ll no doubt touch upon will be NH state standards; Education czar Lyonel Tracy leaving; Follow the Child; Constructivist teaching approach in many of the classrooms; New/fuzzy math; Competencies/Outcome Based Ed (this is in Bedford right now)
