Former State Senator Jim Rubens checks in to discuss the "Unlucky 13" reasons why expanded gambling is bad for our state. Representing the Granite State Coalition Against Expanded Gambling (full disclosure: They are currently running a banner ad here on the ‘Grok), he will update us on the current push to take advantage of the economic times by pro-gambling forces. Are they making headway in the legislature? What is the latest polling data?

New NHGOP Chair John H. Sununu has hit the ground running. A phone call to HQ revealed that "change" has indeed come to the Grand Ole Party. The former governor will join us to discuss Democrat John Lynch’s newly unveiled budget plan, where it leaves the Democrat-controlled House; Judd Gregg’s turnabout in the face of phony "bipartisanship" on Pres Obama’s part; and the national Republicans hanging tough on "stimulus." Are things already looking up for Republicans and conservatives for 2010? We’ll also get his take on the selection of Michael Steele as head of the National Committee.

The Granite State region FIRST competition is underway. Once again, our local robotics team is working hard and hopes their efforts will pay off. We know it already has. Watching the group of students and their mentors working to bring the project last year to its conclusion, we have no doubt that this has benefits that will long outlast the program itself. This is real "hands on" education that works! This program is part of the GOOD stuff one finds in education today, as opposed to some of the junk that gets mixed in.

Doug and Skip will review the week, including the Laconia City Council’s newfound frugality when it comes to where Laconia’s Fire Dept.’s responsibilities end. We’ll also discuss the new information soon to be found on Gilford’s website and the salary/vendor payment question on the warrant. The question of SB2 is once again being aired in area towns & school districts including Meredith and Moultonborough. The system works well for Gilford, and we highly recommend it. Belknap County is learning that, once you grow government, like a cancer, it is hard to reel in. The battle over outside agencies and the juvenile justice industrial complex continues apace.
