Last week on MTNP radio, Jeb Bradley accepted our offer to host NH’s first blogger/radio hosted political debate between him and his Democrat opponent in NH’s 1st congressional district race, Carol Shea Porter. He’ll check in to let us know how that’s working out. The offer is for Shea Porter, along with a pair of bloggers from BlueHampshire, to join Skip and me here in studio for a thought-provoking discussion of the issues with challenger Jeb Bradley.

Tammy Simmons is the Executive Director of the New Hampshire Advantage Coalition (NHAC). As reported here, despite the group’s efforts to assist in the successful submission of tax cap petitions in both Concord and Manchester, a small handful of powerful politicians in each city seeks to keep the people from voting sooner, rather than later. Unfortunately, the debate is now going to take place in court, as suits have been filed in order to force the naysayers’ hands. Tammy will provide an update.

Back in the 80’s, former NH House Speaker Marshall Cobleigh spent many a Sunday morning debating future Governor Jeanne Shaheen on a number of issues. At the time, the battle over the Seabrook Station nuclear power raged on, with the sides plainly split along partisan lines. Republicans favored the facility and Democrats opposed it. As reported in this post earlier this week, The NHGOP has released several YouTube videos showing Shaheen and Cobleigh going at it over the issue. At the time of the original airing, according to GOP state party chair Fergus Cullen,
she was organizing the radical anti-nuclear community in support of former Portsmouth Mayor Paul McEachern’s 1988 gubernatorial campaign. Shaheen served as the campaign manager and senior advisor to Paul McEachern, an extreme nuclear opponent, in both his 1986 and 1988 bids for the corner office.
In one of the videos, Cobleigh says, "And if we don’t have nuclear power in this country we are going to become more and more vulnerable to the Arabs in the mid east, and that’s why we are in danger of war, because we are not taking care of our energy dependence." To which Shaheen responded "that argument just doesn’t wash."
When you compare the events that have unfolded since the time of this particular debate, Democrat Jeanne Shaheen couldn’t have been more wrong, and the clear-thinking Republican Cobleigh more right. Why should we think she would be any more on the ball today? Of course, the Shaheen camp says it is all taken out of context. We’ll let Mr. Cobleigh tell us whether that’s so or not, as he’ll join us for a trip down memory lane. Shaheen wants NH voters to believe she’ll do a better job when it comes to energy matters than our current Senator, John E. Sununu. The facts clearly show that her lack of any foresight going back many years is stunning!

The gals are back! Former schoolteacher turned activist Jane Aitken and math-wiz Ann Marie Banfield once again join us in studio for a whirlwind tour of the latest forces seeking to destroy education as we (used to) know it. As we did the last time they were up, one of the things we’ll focus on the lovely-sounding International Baccalaureate Program.
You’ll cringe when you learn how deeply into local schools UNESCO and the UN have driven. Is this what parents want from their children’s schools? If they only knew! More recommended reading here. Community theme pdf here (note freedom fighter reference). Here in Gilford, when promoting the program, the Superintendent mentions, according to meeting minutes, that large portions of its education philosophy follow Dewey very closely. Find out about Dewey here. Yikes! Oh, and we’ll bag on NH’s "Follow the Child" initiative while we’re at it. Yep– more co$tly meaningless pap that does everything but EDUCATE!
We’ll also discuss textbooks. You might
be surprised at what’s being included (or not). And sadly, the "No Child Left Inside Act" passed Congress this week. Say hello to government approved environmentaleducationindoctrination for your student!
