The results are in. Turnout was much heavier than normal. Gilford is generally a Republican town, with local Dems doing OK from time to time. They have not been kind to Republican gubernatorial candidates, much like the rest of the state, in the last ten years. Today was no different.
Total Turnout 2,992. Norm for midterms is about 2,200-2,300.

Governor
GOP Coburn: 716
Dem Lynch: 2,241
This is the expected blowout. I would say it goes along with the entire state.

US House
GOP Bradley: 1,593
Dem Shea-Porter: 1,354
.
It’s indicative of the problems that the Republicans face today. For a moonbat in the Cindy Sheehan mold to do this good is definitely bad news. Gilford always votes heavily Republican for this seat. Just because Jeb Bradley won here is not good news in and of itself, because of the closeness of the numbers. The larger, more Democrat-leaning city of Laconia probably went for the moonbat, as is likely on the liberal seacoast as well. This could spell trouble.
.
UPDATE (9:13PM)- AP says Bradley narrowly won Manchester 14,298- 13,757. Maybe there’s still hope for this seat to stay in Republican hands!
UPDATE (9:36PM) Charlie Arlinhaus blogging at the Monitor reports things are looking up for Bradley:
Bradley is pulling ahead in towns. The night has looked long for Bradley because all his worst areas, the cities, were coming in first. He lost Somersworth and Rochester and much of Manchester. But each town that comes in shows him winning. A few votes here and a few votes there, but it’s beginning to add up the way towns did for Bob Smith in 1996. The fastest reporting areas are more Democratic, and the slower are more Republican.
UPDATE: Moonbat wins. Bradley swept out. ARRRRGGGGHHHH1….

State Senate
GOP Fitzgerald: 1,362
Dem Sgambati: 1,556
.
This one really hurts too. Again, Gilford going Democrat for this seat by such a margin reveals the scope of the Democrat turnout, obviously bringing many "swing" voters with them. "Coach" Fitzgerald is a popular local football coach and athletic director. This wasn’t supposed to happen. It will be interesting to see how he did in Laconia, where he actually spent his career.
UPDATE (9:48PM) "Coach" Fitzgerald loses to Sgambati. He didn’t even win Laconia.
======================================================================
The local 7-seats for state representative wasn’t too bad for Republicans, who won the high totals for six. Occasionally this has happened when a well-known local Dem runs. Still, the numbers were closer than usual.

I’ll bet Charlie Bass is getting whacked tonight. I think it’s going to be worse than I thought…
UPDATE (10:13PM) Bass loses to Dem Hodes
.
Say a prayer for America. Do people really think they can cancel a war by voting against it?

Doug,Thanks for the results. I’m very surprised about Coach Fitzgerald and the close race of Bradley. Socialism is just around the corner.S.
