News Advisory: (US Newswire)
Press conference with workers, religious groups and religious clients to announce further escalation of LAX Hilton boycott.
Where: LAX Hilton, 5711 West Century Blvd., L.A., 90045
Who: Dozens of LAX Hilton Hotel workers; Mahdi Bray, president of Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation; Maria Elena Durazo, executive secretary treasurer of the LA County Federation of Labor; Haitham Hafeez, representative from Muslim American Society LA Chapter; Rev. Charles Blake II of West Angeles Church of God in Christ and Rabbi Jason Van Leeuwen of the B’nai Tikvah congregation located near Century Blvd. in Westchester.
With a lineup consisting of such groups, you can be sure that the cause must be powerful, indeed. Nothing unites leftists, liberals, moonbats, and outright communists and socialists like a good union action against a major American corporation, which, when you listen to the agitants, you realize it’s the SYSTEM they oppose- the free market. In a word, they oppose America itself. I haven’t heard, but I’m sure "Reverend" Jesse Jackson must be in the mix, somehow.
The Muslim American Society (MAS), America’s largest Muslim grassroots organization has moved its 2nd and 3rd Annual Conventions from the Hilton Los Angeles International Airport Hotel and has called for a national boycott of the hotel by religious institutions and organizations. This year’s event will instead take place at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. The Muslim organization pledges to reach out to Christian and Jewish organizations and to issue a nationwide appeal to all mosques and Islamic centers asking them to honor the boycott.
Since the launch of the worker led boycott of the LAX Hilton, several major clients of the hotel have honored the boycott and moved their events. In addition to M.A.S., Rev. Charles Blake II of the West Angeles Church of God in Christ will announce the cancellation of a Christmas event that was scheduled to be held at the Hilton LAX. In total, the boycott has cost the LAX Hilton at least $1.7 million in lost business.
Dr Ahmed Azam, president of the LA MAS Chapter stated, "We would rather endure the inconvenience of moving our convention than betray the dignity of the hard working employees at Hilton LAX."
The LAX Hilton is the second-largest hotel in Southern California and an anchor of the LAX hospitality industry, which enjoys the highest occupancy rates in L.A. County.
If I’m ever out on the west coast, I will make it a point to stay at LAX Hilton. Oh, and I’ll plan on staying home whenever the MAS convention is scheduled to run- no flying for me on THAT weekend!
