The Powers That Be Will Do All They Can to Support “Business as Usual”

While many are waxing poetic on the “blue wave” which is supposed to manifest this election cycle, I am actually optimistic this will not be the case. We all know The Powers That Be will do all they can to support “business as usual” in the political realm, but regular folks are getting mighty tired of that old song.

The race in Executive Council District 4 is potentially the most important seat in New Hampshire politics. Why would I say this?  Because this single seat will determine whether we have “business as usual” or a change in the Progressive trajectory within the Executive Council in Concord.

Statistics show it is more than likely the incumbents in the current Executive Council will find their way back to their “seat” at the table.  We will probably have District 1 Councilor Joe Kenney and District 5 Councilor Dave Wheeler back returning to the Executive Council. They have Conservative credentials which have been proven by their voting records.

We will also likely have District 2 Councilor Andru Volinski and District 3 Russell Prescott returning as well.  Councilor Prescott voted largely with the Democrats this past session. So, with this breakdown, we have a two-two vote on the Council.  This leaves the District 4 seat in play – and make no mistake – this seat will solidify a Conservative majority or a continuing Progressive culture in our Council.

For those that believe this seat is inconsequential, I ask you to ponder the following.  The Executive Council controls the money purse which dispersed $5.2 billion this past session.  Whoever controls this purse, controls a goodly portion of the game.  While we have been playing an ongoing “Monopoly” game with the taxpayer subsidizing “The Bank”, we now have the opportunity for “The Bank” to hold some sway in how those tax dollars will be spent.  Will our tax dollars be spent frugally but well, or will we continue to throw our tax dollars into the government abyss where no real problems or challenges ever see true resolution?

In the Executive Council, appointees for the voluminous agencies in New Hampshire are also very important.  Are these appointees adequately vetted with regard to our NH State Constitution?  Do these appointees support overreaching, voluminous government or do they espouse small, ethical government?  When the NH Chief Justice comes up for appointment next year, will we investigate any possible legislating from the bench?  What is his/her stance on 2nd Amendment Rights?  How about private property rights?
