Republicans got crushed in the Midterm Elections, especially in New Hampshire, with only Ayotte standing between you and an Income tax, and that remains to be seen. Dems could still land a supermajority in the Senate, and they already have one in the NH House, which looks like a bloodbath. One estimate puts them at winning 300 seats, more than a supermajority.
If Dems win 16 in the Senate, they can collectively override any veto.
Nationally, Team Red lost 7 Senate seats and 33 House seats. Not all races are called, but the Dems own Congress for the next two years.
Ugly loss. Worst beating in twenty years.
New Hampshire:
Governor: Republican Kelly Ayotte wins
Executive Council Majority: Currently 5-0 Democrats l
State House Majority: Est. Democrat supermajority.
State Senate Majority: Currently 15-9 Democrats
Nationally.
NH US Senate Race: Pappas easily wins.
NH US House Race CD-1: Shaheen wins
NH US House Race CD-2: Goodlander Wins
US Senate Majority (or prediction): Currently 54-44 Dems with two races uncalled
US House Majority (or predictions): Currently 236-142 with two races not called
Closing Remarks
I’m not all that worried about Trump. They will impeach him, but the Senate still lacks the votes for it to stick, and post-wipeout Presidents are almost never hampered. Some even thrive.
I am curious what the lame duck Congress will do. They could ram through a bunch of bills for Trump to sign that the incoming Dems won’t have the votes to override, and I said this a few weeks back: a Democrat Congress might be a bad thing for the next democrat candidate for President.
Like I said in the Morning Update. Buckle up. We’ve got a rough ride and a lot of work to do.
Final note: All that NHGOP ground game? Maybe it could have been worse? Imagine that.
