MACDONALD: Free State vs. DSA?

New Hampshire Democrats have hinged a lot of their effort on the idea that Free Staters are taking over the Republican Party, and this is bad for you. Those crazy Free Staters, you don’t want them taking over anything, they say.

New Hampshire Republicans say Democrat Socialists are taking over the Democrat Party, and while they haven’t put as much effort into that message as the Dems have in theirs, you don’t want the socialists taking over anything, they say, and NH Dems have been acting like them for a very long time.

Democrats don’t want free staters winning because their agenda is painfully simple. Take over the government and then keep it, as much as possible, out of your wallet and your life. You know best how to spend or direct the money you earn, and that will create a thriving voluntary economy that benefits from what people want and need. It’s not much different from what the nation’s founders believed. Keep everything as close to the citizen as possible so they have the most control over themselves and government.

Republicans don’t want Democrats winning because their agenda is exactly the opposite. They want more government, which means more of your money paying for it to meddle and interfere in your life. Democrats think they know better how to spend the money you earn, and there is no limit to how much government will need and must take.

I’m not a Free Stater. I discovered the value of New Hampshire before the movement was ever started, but I’ve been here for close to forty years, writing about politics for nearly twenty, and the Republican Party could only be improved by the idea that State government can be smaller and less intrusive, and this will only benefit the state’s citizens. It’s an idea older than our nation or our state.

What Democrats want will cost you more and give you less. A declining return on investment where you don’t get to decide how much is taken and how it’s spent. A system that delivers declining outcomes, lowered access, and higher prices that robbing other people can’t hide for long. And once it’s established, it is nearly impossible to cut or shrink. It self-perpetuates until it has swallowed not just your income but your rights and freedoms.

The choice seems simple enough to me, with or without Free Staters or DSA influence, because Republicans continue to cut taxes and the size and scope of government, and New Hampshire is one of the best states in the nation for just about everything. And Democrats, minus the socialists, are already Democrat socialists pining for a more meddlesome, metastasizing government that swallows your income or earnings until the wealth runs away or runs out.

The rest of it is just noise.

Vote Republican because it’s your money and your rights are natural, not something you want Democrats defining for you because they’ll manage that the way they do everything else – to their personal or party advantage.

And yes, there are Free Staters/Republicans that want NH to secede from the union, but not very many. The DSA and the Democratic Party would like to turn New Hampshire into a vassal state of the central government (and they all need to be on board), complete with a list of political opponents to lawfare, pillory, debate, deplatform, and maybe even murder, with online murder celebrations currently optional.

So, there’s that.
