I don’t watch awards shows. I don’t watch debates either. State of the Union. Almost never. Okay, there are rare exceptions, but I’m busy, and these things tend to be a waste of time. In the internet age, they are dinosaurs, but networks keep airing them, maybe so people have something to talk about.
Headlines or clips or drops on any of those things are fair game, and I guess the MTV Music Awards were last night. I started college when MTV was born, and music videos were huge for years after. And the MTV Music Awards were about Music Videos. I have no idea what they are now; MTV stopped being MTV a long time ago. But The Guardian, a reliable left-wing rag, had this headline.
“Taylor Swift and Madonna win at awards dominated by female artists.”
Swift is having an extended Golden Age, having achieved escape velocity. She’s not just a billionaire pop star; she could release a turd on a paper plate, and her fans would desperately devour it. She’s that popular.
And she worked her ass off to get that way, so it is all deserved, and good on her for winning a bunch of awards from another woke institution.
Personally, I preferred her earlier stuff, but whatever, that’s not even the point. What on God’s green earth (Guardian) is a female artist?
Taylor Swift, Madonna, obviously women. Thai Rapper Lisa is a chick. Super-girly and no Adam’s apple. Siena Spiro, also no Adam’s apple, definitely not another man-chick. They took home some of the best awards, as far as I can tell, so what gives?
Turns out MTV nominates “queer” artists all the time, and some of them win. But it still doesn’t answer the question. What does female mean?
It depends on who you ask and the circumstances, which is nothing short of damning.
A female is a human biological woman. No prostate, no Adam’s apple, no penis now or ever.
I’m certain the Guardian’s definition is a bit more porous thanks to actual women and beta males who are cowards, but in this case they were referring to actual women, so where’s the left-wing outrage?
