Press Release: Merkt named Chairman of ACTA NON VERBA Education Foundation

— ACTA’s Goal: Foster growth of Classical Education options —

ACTA NON VERBA Foundation, a New Hampshire-based private charitable organization established to promote schools offering students a classical education, announced today that Richard A. Merkt of Westmoreland has been elected Chairman of its Board of Trustees. Merkt succeeds Kimberly Lavallee of Mont Vernon, who served as Board Chair since the foundation’s creation early last year.

ACTA NON VERBA (“Deeds, Not Words”) has as its mission encouraging the growth of classical education through financial assistance to public and private classical schools. The Trustees believe that expanding families’ access to classical schools offers the best hope to improve the quality of American education, as well as produce literate and responsible citizens to help lead the nation in the future.

“It is an honor to succeed Kim Lavallee in the role of Board Chair of ACTA NON VERBA Foundation,” said Merkt, who added, “This organization provides valuable financial support to schools offering classical education as an option for students.”

Richard Merkt has been active in the school-choice movement for more than six years, having served as one of the founding trustees of Lionheart Classical Academy, a chartered public school located in Peterborough. Last year, he helped found ACTA NON VERBA Foundation to continue the work of expanding school options for families not only in New Hampshire, but throughout the United States.

“School-choice has become a priority for a growing number of families, expanding the demand for educational alternatives for their children,” remarked Merkt. “Classical education is an increasingly popular part of this movement because so many parents find its core features and virtues better prepare their youngsters for sustained academic – and career – success,” he explained.

In just its first year and a half of operation, ACTA NON VERBA Foundation has already donated more than a dozen matching grants to public and private classical schools primarily in the Northeast, but also as far distant as Florida.

“ACTA NON VERBA is just getting started,” observed Merkt, “and it is a privilege to be a part of this shining example of how private philanthropy makes America even better for the next generation. ‘Deeds, Not Words’ is a powerful message about the critical importance of civic engagement, and there is no better way to prepare our young people for this duty than through classical education,” he concluded.
