MACDONALD: Is It Democrat-Driven Demographic Decline?

Pearl-clutching abounds as politicians and pundits ponder a progressive population decline in the Green Mountain State. Vermont is old, white, and clearly not “importing” enough “refugees” to replace the “indigenous” population. The “reasonings” abound.

The people born there, the indigenous ones, aren’t having enough children to replace themselves. It is a problem Vermont could solve by curtailing the practice of aborting babies before they have a chance to be born, but we might as well suggest that residents “house” ICE agents (it’s not like Democrats have never asked them to house illegal aliens). Killing the unborn is a human right if you presume that a human baby who, if left alone, might grow up to be a gender-confused ICE-hating cat lady. No such luck. Dems not only want you to choose abortion, but they also don’t want you to know that there are other options.

Vermont is old and aging out.As the Baby Boom generation continues to age, demographers expect this natural decrease to accelerate. Without a significant and consistent influx of new residents to offset these losses, the total population must contract—it’s simple arithmetic. To maintain zero growth, Vermont needs nearly 2,000 new residents every year just to break even.”

Since they killed all the babies, the State isn’t reproducing enough Vermonters to keep Vermont, Vermont, but don’t worry. You can import more Muslims, and they’ll have you back in the growth category in no time. It’ll cost you the gender flags, pride parades, and they’ll probably ban abortion when they take over the government, but if you convince white people to hate themselves and not breed, that’s you trashing your liberal privilege, not them.

Housing seems to be a big deal, but again, if you were just managing replacement birth levels, you’d have the same number of houses, which even a sixth grader could work out if the public schools taught kids to do math. Since you are not, there ought to be enough houses, and no reason for them to cost more given what mathematically ought to be a creeping decline in demand to match your demographic suicide.

The prices will come down on their own, and while we wait, locals could make a few ends meet by housing those refugees y’all love so much (for a small state-funded fee), which will give them time to teach Vermonters about Dhimmis and Jizya.

One inexplicable issue is the COVID surge. Marxists seeking to escape what they voted for fled cities for rural enclaves. States like New Hampshire and Vermont saw a spike in wealthy liberals buying up properties and adding to the population. Vermont somehow managed to not benefit from that.

We can probably blame the older folks passing in larger numbers and the younger folks not replacing them because they’ve been indoctrinated not to (climate change!), or the gender mill neutering them if they manage to crown and breathe air. But New Hampshire, which is a geographic and demographic twin, is not losing population; it is gaining it. Not a lot, but a lot more than Vermont, so what gives?

Politically, Vermont is a lot like the places the Marxists fled, just with lower crime (for now), cleaner air, and better views (excluding the ones cluttered up with those ridiculous windmills). Democrats still control the political decline, and when in significant enough majorities, ram through the same failed ideas that drive people out of big liberal cities run by the same sorts of Democrats.

And you can build all the Soviet-style cinder-block housing you want, prop it up with taxpayer-backed government-laundered subsidies, and pretend that makes them “affordable,” but if you don’t stop turning the state into a Marxist utopia, none of it will matter.

Given the choice to live in a Marxist Dem-run city with walkability – as long as you carry mace, a taser, and a baton (all illegal by the way) – or something on the way there but you need a car or an uber to get anywhere, the urban wasteland wins (unless you can afford both, then you buy a second home in Vermont and refuse to let any “refugees” live in it while you are in your ‘primary’ residence).

My advice, if Vermont wants to stop the decline, is to drop the depoplation agenda. Stop killing babies (or at least stop celebrating it). Stop neutering the ones you got. And knock off treating a state that only exists thanks to rebel-insurrectionists and militias as if it were the People’s Republic of California. Folks are fleeing that state by the hundreds of thousands, but they aren’t moving to Vermont because it’s run by the same sorts of folks whose idea of discrimination, racism, equality, and empathy they could no longer afford and are trying to escape.
