As a New Hampshire woman who’s spent many years escaping to Maine’s rugged coastlines—think fresh lobster rolls at hole-in-the-wall shacks, quiet hikes in Acadia, and those perfect summer sunsets over Penobscot Bay—I’m gutted by what’s happened to our neighbor state. Maine used to be America’s safest haven: 94% white, violent crime at a laughably low 124 per 100,000 (USA Today, 2018), a place where poverty didn’t mean chaos. But under progressive Democrat rule—led by Governor Janet Mills and her crew—it’s become a fraud-riddled nightmare. Somali-linked nonprofits are bleeding MaineCare (Medicaid) dry, crime’s exploding in places like Lewiston, and the ultimate slap? Aid raised for the white victims of the 2023 mass shooting got diverted to the very scam outfits under investigation. U.S. citizens deserve answers: How much fraud is the Trump administration uncovering nationwide? How long have elite Democrat politicians let illegal immigrants and unassimilated newcomers—especially Somalis—pick our pockets while hardworking folks foot the bill?
The Lewiston Massacre: Everyday White Mainers Slaughtered
October 25, 2023: Army reservist Robert Card II, 40, unleashes hell in Lewiston. At 6:56 p.m., he storms Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley during youth league night, blasting 18 rounds from a Ruger SFAR .308 in 45 seconds—killing 10, including four deaf cornhole players. Twelve minutes later at Schemengee’s Bar & Grille, eight more die. Total: 18 dead, 13 wounded—all local white Mainers.
Meet the victims: Fathers like Bryan MacFarlane (35, dad of four), Peyton Brewer-Ross (40, partner expecting a girl), Maxx Hathaway (35, pregnant wife), William “Billy” Brackett (38, wife due soon). Bar manager Tricia Asselin (53, mom). Ronald “Ron” Morin (52, family man). Joseph Lawrence Walker (57). Father-son bowlers William and Aaron Young. Deaf cornhole victims Thomas “Tom” Conrad (35), Steve Vozella (45), Robert Violette (47), Lucille “Lucy” Violette (73, his mom), Jason Adam (51), Sean G. Ring (40), plus Fern Delcina Champagne (48) and Michael Deschaine (51).
Card’s spiral was obvious from January 2023: grenade instructor with ~2,400 blast exposures (probable CTE per BU autopsy), auditory hallucinations (”pedophile” voices), paranoia, rage-drinking. Family warned cops May 2023 (10-15 guns). July: hospitalized for “hit list” threats. September 14: assaulted a friend (”might snap”). Army and police blew 100+ wellness checks—no gun seizure, no coordination. He hid two days in a recycling plant before suicide.
Victims Robbed: Shooting Funds Siphoned to Fraudsters
Compassion turned grift. Maine Community Foundation fundraisers launched October 27 raised $6M+—$1.8M victim-specific, rest “broad recovery.” $4.7M reached families. But ~$2M? Funneled to 29 unrelated refugee/immigrant nonprofits like fraud-probed Gateway Community Services and Muhidin Libah’s Somali Bantu Association. No Somali victims—yet insiders stacked the 10-person steering committee (four recipient reps). Victims’ aunt Amy Sussman raged on NewsNation: “Extremely revictimizing… $65K per nonprofit while survivors got $7K-$32K.” Jennifer Zanka’s $93K hospital bill crushed her tiny payout. Families sued; 100 survivors hit Army/state in federal court. AG cleared it, but donors feel conned—white Mainers shorted again.
Gateway: The Fraud Kingpin
Founded 2014 by Somali-American Abdullahi Ali—Dadaab refugee, PhD, Jubbaland presidency hopeful—Gateway’s the poster child.
