Chuck Schumer’s ‘Great Idea!’

I don’t know why Democrat Senators are so upset about Merrick Garland not getting a hearing on his nomination. But it is supposed to be the key reason they want to filibuster the Republican nominee. In that regard why would Democrat Senators ever vote for any nominee put forth by any Republican President?

Senator Schumer had a great idea during an interview with Chuck Todd:

CHUCK TODD: Why not give Neil Gorsuch an up or down vote, Senator Schumer?

SENATOR CHUCK SCHUMER: Let me make a proposal here to maybe break this problem that we have, okay? It looks like Gorsuch will not reach the 60-vote margin. So instead of changing the rules, which is up to Mitch McConnell and the Republican majority, why doesn’t President Trump, Democrats, and Republicans in the Senate, sit down, and try to come up with a mainstream nominee?

Look, when a nominee doesn’t get 60 votes, you shouldn’t change the rules, you should change the nominee.

To hear Senator Chuck Schumer offer a solution such as letting his side, ultra left-wing liberals in the US Senate, pick a fresh Republican nominee brings two simple questions to mind.

1.     Did Obama consult with Republicans when he put forth Garland’s name?

No, there was no consensus on the empty Scalia seat. Obama came up with Merrick Garland’s name himself.

2.     Since when does a President consult with the opposition party for a Supreme Court nomination?

Barak Hussein Obama did not consult with Republicans when he drafted Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court. And there is no need to do anything but get President Donald Trump’s nominee approved by the US Senate and on the bench as soon as possible – before John McCain can screw it up.
