Vermont Bails on Columbus Day

Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin has declared that, at least in 2016, October 10th is Indigenous People’s Day and not Columbus Day.

Vermont’s governor has issued a proclamation rebranding Columbus Day as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in honor of the “sacrifice and contributions of the First Peoples of this land,” including the Abenaki, their ancestors and allies.

The declaration is only good for this year so Vermont’s next Governor could take the “logical” leap in 2017 (remember, this is Vermont) to celebrate the second Monday in October as Indigenous gender-neutral day in honor of cis-peoples of non-specific or revolving gender orientation.

Those ‘guys’ who ‘discover’ they are women so they can plant their flag in the ladies changing room deserve a day too, right?
