The St. Patrick’s Day 500

2013 St. Patrick's Day Parade in South Boston, MABoston police arrested nearly 500 people during this years St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

“Keeping spectators and participants safe along the route was Mayor Walsh’s and my top priority,” said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans in a statement. “Issuing nearly double the amount of citations for public drinking compared to last year evidences the challenges we faced in keeping public order at this family event. I want to thank all of those who braved the cold and came out and celebrated responsibly.”

Police say they warned citizens in advance, via social media, that they would have a low tolerance for this sort of foolishness.

So are the St. Patrick’s Day Parade crowd inclined to public intoxication not the sort who check social media for that sort of thing or do they simply do not care?
