New York State banned guns that look mean, by defining what the scary bits were. (Ooh, that thingy makes the other part look dangerous, we don’t want rifles with those on them, that’s bad.). So…gun shops and machinists went to work and built an AR-15 that includes none of the scary restricted parts that were banned. The result is a fully functional AR-15 hunting rifle, that should do all the things an AR should do, with none of the parts the experts in government defined as too intimidating to be attached to a rifle,… or something.
