Just before 8:30 this morning I let loose on the left’s declaration of war against the second amendment. Knowing that this doesn’t scare nearly as many people as it should, I added what seemed to me to be a natural extension of this assault by bringing up the left’s war on the first amendment. And at the end, I closed the loop.
For years Democrats have suggested gun bans, but now former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens says we need to repeal the second amendment. Do you support that? If not, how far are you willing to go and what assurances after the failures in Parkland can you give your constituents about their safety?
This afternoon, the State GOP issued a press release and a video asking the entire Democrat Congressional Delegation, Democrats all, “to denounce recent calls to repeal the Second Amendment.”
Transcript:
I’m Jeanie Forrester.
This is a serious moment.
For the first time a retired Supreme Court Justice is calling for full repeal of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
It’s unconscionable.
The Founders deliberately drafted protection for our God-given right to own a firearm into our nation’s constitution.
We cannot let the Left take it away.
Jeanne Shaheen, Maggie Hassan, Annie Kuster and the Liberals running in the First Congressional District
You MUST denounce this un-American threat to our liberty today.
Thank you.”
Nice timing, and thank you. This just makes sense.
I think the left is really overreaching on Parkland and the media is making them arrogant. They are going to keep at it the way the kept at it until Hillary lost. It feels like that sort of deep dive into a shallow pool.
And the video is great but I believe one of the keys to giving it weight and legs is reminding people how the ideas of the left about the gun issue tie into the speech issue. Years of lying about their desire to ban guns may not matter to everyone but it reinforces their very open desire to limit or ban speech.
One gets you to the other. Head and gut or gut then head, you decide but its demands some explanation for this ideological obsession with using the state to limit natural rights.
The next, next question should be what else have you been hiding? What other rights are you planning to take away? And why should I believe you or rust you in elected office?
I’m sure they’ll revert to form. Name calling, misdirection. What about President Trump? What about him?
Is he saying we should eliminate constitutional protections of speech or self-defense? Is he refusing to denounce such ideas? This is about you and your party? What do you have to say?
You have to do this.
The New Hampshire media may not do anything with NHGOP Chair Forrester’s remarks.
Will they ask Kuster, Shea-Porter, Hassan or Shaheen about defending the right to self-defense? Will they ask any New Hampshire candidates for Congress or Democrats running for Governor? Will they even ask a local Democrat to denounce this absurd notion? Will they press them? Or will they try to let it slide quietly into obscurity?
I’m thinking the latter so please share this post and my one from this morning. Encourage everyone to begin calling and emailing the congressional delegation, the state party, state senators, Democrat congressional candidates, even your local candidates and NH House reps.
Get them on the record however they respond, or if they just don’t. We’ll take that as in favor of repeal.
If you email your successes or failures to us we’ll report them here. You can stay anonymous, or not. You decide.
