How Progressive Policy May Have Cost 17 People Their Lives

Nikolas CruzThe culture question will continue to dominate our discussion as we work our way through why a troubled kid shot up a school.  But Democrat-Progressive policy may have some part to play as well.

Back in July 2012, the Obama Administration formalized a rule warning school districts to consider race when handing down discipline. It warned against schools using “methods that result in disparate use of disciplinary tools.”

In 2015 Broward County Florida, the county where 17 people just died in a mass shooting, adopted a plan along those lines.

“…there were just way too many arrests of kids in the Florida school system. So rather than attack the delinquency at the source, officials decided to solve the problem of too many arrests this way (and I quote): Lower arrests by not making arrests.

Guess who fell into the category of do not arrest?

By virtue of his name alone, Nikolas de Jesús Cruz, the adopted son of Lynda and Roger Cruz, became a statistical Hispanic.  As such, authorities at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland had every reason not to report his troubling and likely criminal behavior to the police.

According to a source who spoke to the Miami Herald, Cruz had been suspended from Stoneman Douglas High for fighting and also for being caught with bullets in his backpack.  This was apparently at least one of the reasons why administrators reportedly emailed a warning to teachers against allowing Cruz on the campus with a backpack.  He was later expelled for reasons that have not been disclosed, but he was apparently not arrested.

Throughout all of this keep in mind that one of the Left’s more persistent arguments for gun control is that the government will protect us. The government school that stopped arresting these kids? The government that knew Cruz was a risk? The Government that failed to even talk to him? I guess they are talking about some other government because from where I’m sitting government incompetence is why those people are dead.

And at this point, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to discover that the FBI let Cruz run loose hoping this would happen so that their deep-state pay-masters could use another tragedy to advance anti-gun policy.

The alternative is that they really are that incompetent, which means that law-abiding Americans have more proof that their best defense is self-defense because the government is not only not required to protect you (which they are not) they’re incapable of it.

What they are capable of is disarming you which, as we can see, is the first thing too many of them are trying to do in the wake of another tragedy for which they are arguably responsible.
