Warner Todd Huston: Home and Car Vandalized Because I’m a Conservative Writer

by Steve MacDonald

Warner Todd HustonOccasional podcast guest and friend of the Grok Warner Todd Huston has found himself a target of the “tolerant left™.” After many years as a conservative writer without issue, someone or a pack of someones has taken to vandalizing his home and property.

Over the course of this year, someone in my neighborhood has targeted me. At first, I thought it was just random vandals as the attacks were penny-ante nonsense, but now I am pretty sure it is being done by someone who knows I am a conservative writer who has a body of work stretching back to 2001 and they are trying to intimidate me.

It started early this year when a flag was pulled off my flag-staff and left ripped and in pieces on my lawn.

Two ruined flags, and an egged garage door later, the idea that it might just be hooligans was still a functional explanation. And then something else happened.

On the night of July 1, the U.S. Army flag that I fly in honor of my son who is in the service was scorched and on it was written in marker “die dogs.”

This was a bit more threatening and more specific than just mindless destruction. It seemed directly aimed at the U.S. military and me personally.

The flag vandalism was followed by another egging with some graffiti added, labeling him a racist.

Thus far none of these incidents were really too major, but they did show signs of coming faster and picking up in severity. (…) Butcar_fire_02 last night it went into high gear.

At about 1 AM or so on Saturday morning, I was awakened by a noise outside my home. I can’t really say what the noise was as it woke me from a deep sleep. It was just a shout that awoke me. I looked at my window and saw what struck me as a strange light outside. So, I went to the front door…

And saw my car interior on fire…

There are pictures aplenty here. Warner also notes that the police have not been much help. But the commenters have almost universally suggested the same thing. Security Cams.

Here’s to hoping he gets those cameras and has something “interesting” and incriminating to give the local PD.

If you’d like to help Warner with the cost of another used car, there is a GoFundMe campaign online.

Live for free or die, I’m guessing no insurance? Now he’s looking for a handout? Wow….

    • mer

So you’re good with his car being burned, flag burned and all the other damage?
“Free speech for me but not for thee?”
“He’s a f**^&^ Conservative, basically a Nazi so he deserves to be punched and jumped because of what he may say?”

Glad to know that’s your position.

You obviously don’t understand the part about “GoFundMe” being voluntary. You don’t want to give anything, no one is forcing you to unlike the Gov forcing people to pay taxes to fund Piss Christ.

Thanks for putting my position in my mouth. I don’t think he deserved it. But why is the man asking for money? Any basic insurance policy would cover fire. So because he can’t be bothered to protect his assets were supposed to help him?

        • granitegrok

Deductible way too high, or other financial things going on that we don’t know about? Mer’s right – this is what Conservatives do – go help their friends in their time of need.

          Voluntarily

          • roger

It’s funny that you Conservatives complain about people getting government “hand outs” for situations that are beyond their control, and then have no issues giving people money who put themselves in a situation due to pure negligence.

Yes i get there is rampant welfare abuse, yes I get it’s public money and this is private money. But seriously..where is the libertarian spirit of personal responsibility?

          • granitegrok

Here it is straight out – a lot of us have been in similar situations of being targeted because we are conservatives where people have gone after jobs. “Pure negligence” simply because he makes his living writing for a conservative website? Part of the “Libertarian” outlook is not to cause harm to others – Progressives don’t abide by that from the experience I’ve had with them.

You are ASSUMING that Warner put himself into such a situation but ASSUME that welfare folks haven’t? That’s a mighty big jump. From personal experience in owning a daycare, I can tell you that while a few were “not their fault”, I also saw the multi-generational situations where it WAS their fault – they confirmed that they were quite satisfied with other people paying their way and actually said – “so, you folks work so that I don’t have to!”

          • roger

Hey I’m not condoning violence. This will be the second time I’ll say I am aware of fraudulent situations. It, like voter fraud is the exception not the rule. I’ll agree reform needs to be had in both arenas.

As a daycare owner what sort of subsides did people “abuse” the system with? No one forced you to drop your rates to the maximum state reimbursement, I am assuming that is your gripe. You couldn’t charge “market rate’?

Again, third time. I get that there is abuse in the system. However since people aren’t allowed to get abortions under your system they get stuck with a baby they cannot afford because they couldn’t make the choice for themselves. So now it’s either the Mom doesn’t work she and the kid suffers, and the cycle continues….or she does work and uses the resources available to her to better herself and educate her son thus breaking the cycle, hopefully? Which would you prefer?

How do you get reconcile that? You seem to want to put people in worst of positions (pro life) than they need to be, and then provide no help when they needs it (anti subsidies small government). I assume because people should live and die by their decisions right?

            So I’ll say this…
You’re a Constitutional purist right? Todd was exercising his right to freedom of expression and the press, so because of the nature of his expression the risk of these types of incidents increases (sadly that is the risk he took) as such he should cover those risks himself visa vi insurance. That is a straight up Libertarian view point of the situation as I see it and a direct analogy of your pro life..we shouldn’t be helping people thought process.

Before “roger” finishes high school, I’m sure he’ll understand what the word “voluntarily” means.

Nice going, blame the victim. What happened to your collective empathy.

          • roger

I feel bad for the man, but he should have had this covered by insurance. This is the same arena as people putting go fund me pages up t cover their kids funeral expense when they die of and OD.

          • 175jfs

I guess you’ve never had a run of bad luck in your life. Well, for some, there’s not much difference between well heeled and just a heel.

    • Michael

Ideally, the party that’s responsible for damaging the writer’s property will be held accountable. If they’re caught, they’ll have to pay restitution. I know the concept of “private property” be it someone’s car, body, or flag is a foreign concept to most leftists.

      • 175jfs

Try to get restitution out the collective lowlifes in this state. Don’t expect much help from the courts or probation.
