Fight over School Choice Heats Up

school-choice1Someone I know (a liberal Hillary supporter) who must remain anonymous was saying that SB193 would allow some home-schooling family with six kids to take six kids worth of money out of the school district when it wouldn’t cost them that much to home school them. My fist thought was, well, it’s not actually the school’s money, to begin with, and why aren’t you equally concerned for how welfare or food stamps or other taxpayer handouts are exhausted?

My second thought was, no you’ve got it wrong, a notion confirmed yesterday by Rich Girard. The money in question is not local dollars but state education property tax money. That money doesn’t even go to the district if the child or children are already home-schooled or attend a private or charter school. “The District™” doesn’t lose a dime.
