NH Senate Democrats think law-abiding gun owners are violent criminals

NH Senate Democrats believe law-abiding NH citizens are raging criminalsOn Thursday the New Hampshire Senate voted on SB 116, aka ‘Constitutional Carry’. During the process, senators had the chance to discuss the bill. It was quite interesting listening to Senator David Pierce, who is already under fire for voting against the bill in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Pierce and the rest of the New Hampshire Senate Democrats seem to have an extremely low opinion of their constituents.

Senator Sharon Carson opened up the vote by recommending that the senate follow the Judiciary Committee’s 3-1 vote of “Ought to Pass”. She explained the overwhelming support of Granite Staters at the hearing (4.5 hours of testimony, only 4 opposed, 3 were paid to be there). Carson also explained how the pistol license hurts women who have to wait 14 days in order to get a license to protect themselves; especially those who have fled abusive relationships.

Senator Pierce gave a speech and then went on to explain an extremely disturbing scenario that he completely made up. He claims that if someone stole his parking space and he saw them open carrying a firearm, he wouldn’t say anything to them about it. But if they were concealed carrying and he said something, they might shoot him. Yes, Senator Pierce thinks so little of New Hampshire residents and gun owners that he believes he could get shot over a stolen parking space.

Pierce doesn’t seem to grasp what SB 116 does. All it simply does is not force people to have to ask permission to practice their fundamental right to self-defense. It doesn’t change federal law nor does it allow people unable to legally possess or purchase a firearm to suddenly be able to do so. Pierce continually talks about law-abiding New Hampshire gun owners as if they are criminals waiting to commit murder. Law-abiding Granite Staters are currently turned into criminals if they don’t have a pistol license and their jacket accidentally covers their firearm.

Senator Pierce believes that the police chiefs in towns across the state do not discriminate when granting pistol licenses to residents because he thinks chiefs of police know almost everyone in their towns. He ignored the testimony of a woman who was indeed discriminated against. He didn’t believe her. Pierce believes a male police chief who belongs to an organization that wants to ban firearms over a woman who sat for over 4 hours to testify about what happened to her when she applied for a pistol license.

Pierce also decided to use statistics that make absolutely no sense. He admits violent crime is lower in Vermont (a Constitutional Carry state) when questioned by Senator Carson but then states that gun violence is really the issue he is concerned with. He goes on further to talk about gun DEATHS in states with Constitutional Carry. Except he’s not being honest about the statistics he’s using. Suicides make up the majority of all gun deaths in the country, not homicides. In 2013, according to the FBI, Vermont and New Hampshire both had only 5 homicides where a firearm was the weapon; however, homicide in New Hampshire was more than double the homicide rate in Vermont.

The entire debacle went on for almost 50 minutes. There is much more that needs to be discussed about the abhorrent behavior of New Hampshire Senate Democrats and that will follow. The takeaway from this vote is that Democrats believe law-abiding Granite Staters are violent neanderthals who will shoot you over a parking spot; can’t seem to control themselves and even though they are allowed to freely open carry, Democrats “feel safer” somehow by forcing people to ask permission of a police chief who is allowed to discriminate against law-abiding citizens without cause.

The vote was completely along party lines with every Republican Senator voting for the bill and every Democrat Senator voting against it (D’Allesandro was not in attendance but would have voted how his party told him). The rights of the people shouldn’t be a political game but based on the votes, it is to Democrats. The majority of New Hampshire citizens want their senators and representatives to pass “Constitutional Carry” in the state but Democrats, once again, voted against the will of the people who elected them.
