The Granite Grok TOP Twenty for 2014

GG Top 20 2014

It is time once again to countdown the years most commented posts.  As a reminder this list is based entirely on comments.  It is  not so much the top 20 best posts for content, reporting, influence, or style (decisions we would never assume to make for you)  just those that inspired the most on-line debate.

2012 Top 20  –  2013 Top 20

The GraniteGrokTOP Twenty for 2014

#20 TEA Party member asks for apology for Walt Havenstein’s teabagger remark, Havenstein refuses  I think this eventually cost him the election.  NH Gubernatorial candidate Walt Havenstein, probably at the suggestion of campaign operatives, refuses to apologize to the base that later turns out for Republicans in November just not for him (or Scott Brown).

#19 How Hamas Runs A Town – (What Israel Is Fighting)  On Israel, Hamas, tunnels, caches of weapons, humanitarian aide and the lefts reaction to all of it.

#18  Because Principle Matters to The Base – We Bring You The NH Senate Race Poison Poll  We took a Poll back in April to see which Republican candidate for US Senate in New Hampshire would keep the base home on election night. …

#17 Jeanne Shaheen Voter Fraud Queen Nothing surprising here. NH Senator Jeanne Shaheen has long benefited from non-resident and same day voters for outside New Hampshire who come here to vote Democrat. So we keep talking about it.

#16 Democrats promise: If You Disarm, The Government Will Protect You.  They Lied.   “Six more people are dead and thirteen injured (in Santa Barbra), all of whom either believed the government’s lie, or were prohibited from arming themselves as a matter of policy.”

#15 Shut Out By A Bloomburglar?   Rick Olson shares the story of how he and Skip, upon arriving (Rick as invited guest) to a Gun Owners of New Hampshire (GONH) event in Manchester (Scott Brown’s private no cameras allowed plea to the gun community), were quickly ushered aside “by Hotel Management” and refused entry.  Rick still got a story and we eventually got our hands on bootleg video of the GONH event.

#14 Are YOU A Recovering Republican?  An idle barb by yours truly during a podcast inspired Mike to not just remark about the idea of “Republicans Anonymous,” but to advertise the idea of a support group and create a graphic to go with it.

#13 Breaking – Republicans have now flipped 7 Senate seats   An Election night story from November 2014 on the state of the US Senate.

#12 How Does This Democrat Vote Fraud Grab You?  It’s not every day you discover an out-of-state vote stealer who cast a ballot in New Hampshire in 2012 AND video of that person in another state on election night 2012, talking about their candidate in Missouri.  We had it and people talked about it.

#11 What Kind of Deal Did Jasper Make?  When Democrat elected NH House Speaker Shawn Jasper got elected by the minority caucus with a handful of help from some very moderate Republicans, everyone wanted to know – What deal did Jasper make with the Democrats.

#10 NH Speaker of the House Race – incoming rumors   We heard a rumor about some backroom scheming in the race for Speaker of the NH House. Reports of backroom scheming are good for commenting as well.

#9 Teacher attitudes towards Parents -more on “the kids are OUR kids, not yours”   Teachers, more and more, believe our kids are THEIRS, and like little Jonathan Grubers, think we parents are too stupid to know enough on helping our kids.

#8 Collaboration, Support, Loyalty, Sacrifice, Concession  CNHT Chairman Ed Naile began sharing his thoughts with our readers in 2014 and this post about how the “Monadnock Ledger Transcript, a liberal paper in the Peterborough area, has come out for slashing budgets and cutting the pay of employees of an exclusive local arts center and Franklin Pierce College” got the readers commenting this post to the number 8 spot in 2014

#7 Progressive view of The Proper Role of Government – and your subservience to it.  This post got to the number 7 by a different route.  Skip kept having to update it and every update attracted more and more debate about one of the most important topics we could cover – the proper role of government and our subservience to it.

#6 Schoolhouse Rock is Dead  Tom breaks the top ten with a quality commentary about a video from the folks at Saturday Night Live that used Obama and executive orders to spoof the School House Rock classic “I’m just a Bill.”

#5 Daughter of William Baer Speaks After her Father Is Arrested at Gilford, NH School Board Meeting  When Billy Baer was arrested during a local school board meeting, a story that went national, his daughter had a few words to say, and our readers did as well.

#4 Smith is a Conservative, Brown is Shaheen-lite Grokster Don Ewing strikes top 5 gold with a post that shows how US Senate Candidate Scott Brown is more like Jeanne Shaheen and the readers responded.

#3 NH Senate Republican Majority PAC lies about anti-2nd Amendment Senators Like JR, Kimberly Morin is another new contributor who joined us in 2014 and she struck a cord with some commentary on a mailer sent out by the NH Senate Republican Majority PAC for NH Senate candidate David Boutin with wild claims about his support for Second Amendment rights.

#2 Letter to Rep. Hoell regarding Scott Brown (aka Scott “Take Your Guns Away” Brown):  JR Hoell posted a letter from Attorney Penny Dean listing facts about then Senatorial Candidate Scott Brown’s record (his publicly stated views and his actual votes as a US Senator) on gun rights.   The result is the second most commented on post for 2014.

#1 Don’t Tell us how to dress.  Much like the 2012 winner this post was just a picture I posted.  On one side was an accused sexist-shirt wearing scientist who had just landed a space craft on an asteroid.  On the other, a topless female protester holding a sign that read “Don’t tell us how to dress.”  This sent a few folks on a fiery rampage that made this the second most commented post in GrokHistory.
