Vulnerable Shaheen Doubles Down On Support For More IRS Intimidation

IRSThe Hill

Asked if the IRS should play a more active role policing political advocacy by groups that claim to be focused on social welfare, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) responded, “Absolutely.”

“Both on the left and the right,” she said. “As taxpayers, we should not be providing a write-off to groups to do political activity, and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”

She called the glut of political spending by self-described social welfare groups that qualify under section 501(c)(4) of the tax code “outrageous.”

Shaheen is in a good position now but could find herself embroiled in a tight campaign if former Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) challenges her.

Both on the left and the right?  Really?

I guess she’ll be able to tell me the status of the IRS invetigation into New Hampshire Citizens for Action?  They invested vast sums canvassing for Carol Shea-Porter back in 2010. No.

Well, perhaps we need something more current.  So I am encouraging all the activists in the state to grab a name off the list of so-called bi-partisan, non-profits; Granite State Progress, NHCA (and NHCAA), HRC, the shadow groups created by Hilltop Public Solutions, there are tons of them.  You can use the NH Sec-o-State portal to get started.  Try looking at the FEC.govGuidestar.org is an excellent resource.  OpenSecrets.org can help you make some connections as well.

See what you can uncover, send it to us, and to Senator Shaheen, so we know what she has seen.

She’s concerned?  Let’ make sure we ensure that she lives up to that whole ‘Both left and right’ thing.
