Jeanne Shaheen Votes Against Restoring Veteran’s Benefits – (In Favor of Illegal Worker Welfare Loophole)

Shaheen blocks restoring Vet benifitsSenate Republicans attempted to restore funding in the budget to Veterans benefits by closing a loophole that allowed illegal workers to take a tax credit without having a social security number.

In a party line vote, with only Democrat Kay Hagan voting with Republicans, the motion to restore benefits to veterans was killed by Senate Democrats.

Closing that loophole would have provided more than enough funding to restore veterans benefits without any increased spending.

According to the Treasury Inspector General, individuals not authorized to work in the US are using the loophole at a cost to taxpayers of $4.2 Billion a year.  New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen would rather cut benefits to American veterans including disabled vets, than fix a loophole in the welfare system that costs taxpayers over $4 billion dollars a year in unintended payments to illegal workers.
