Charlotte Avenue Elementary School Principal Patricia Beaulieu posted a letter on the school’s website last week informing parents of the school’s safety policies. She says while “tag” may seem innocent enough, it has been banned in many schools because of injuries.
Just a side note. Other names for “tag” include, running, exercise, and socialization. I also recall it being fun.
Given that this will get national press (it has the word Ban in it) Principal Beaulieu might want to modify her objections to tag to in fact be because it is “a form of intimidation and bullying.” She’d get an award for that I bet. And that might make the phone call to the parent or parents of the child being disciplined for playing tag…a bit easier to pass off as some kind of serious concern worthy of the interruption.
Isn’t competitive running like tag without the tagging? Just asking.
