GrokTV Event: Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) speaks to NH Crowd on his Presidential Announcement Day

Tonite, Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) addressed a ‘by invitation only" house event  (the home of NH Deputy Speaker Pam Tucker) and outlined some of broad themes of his campaign, and GraniteGrok was privileged to be there (although I was there as just ordinary schlub Skip rather than as Grokster Skip).  After addressing the crowd, he also took a number of questions from those assembled.

Certainly he talked economic issues – Texas has created more jobs than any other state in the union since Obama took office.  His simple formula was to lower taxes, lower regulation, and lower the number of frivolous lawsuits that companies must endure.  While Democrats might tend to use that as "setting a low bar" in a reverse type of way, it is actually a fairly high bar, as again, no other state has been able to achieve the same results.  That said, he did single out both Speaker Bill O’Brien and Deputy Speaker Pam Tucker for their roles in the Right to Work issue – one that Perry said will result in more jobs in NH as it will become a magnet for companies in the Northeast.

He best line of the night for me is that the Federal government should become inconsequential to the ordinary person’s daily life.  Given how intrusive its taxes and regulations have become, that should be a high value goal.  After all, how many people complain that there isn’t ENOUGH politics in their lives?

This clip is of his talk – please excuse the shaking but as I had not planned on getting any video, I only brought the trusty Flipcam along (and no monopod on which to rest it):
