Every protagonist in Greek tragedy is expected to have some fatal or tragic flaw. A weakness that compels toward their demise. If the ATF ever had a higher purpose, its modern obsession with control over a constitutionally protected right, at least in the current court climate, could be their undoing.
Last year, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) announced a new pistol brace rule. The idea was to turn millions of Americans into felons overnight while creating a trap. Even if you tried registering your “short-barreled rifle,” you’d only be telling them where to arrest you.
Quote of the day: “Made it harder for people to buy stabilized braces. Put a pistol on a brace, it turns into a gun. Makes them more, you can have a higher caliber weapon, a higher caliber bullet coming out of that gun.”
With an enforcement deadline looming at the end of May, potentially affecting millions of stabilizing braces, the new ATF rule is – as the founders told us – a test or an “experiment of your disposition.”
On Feb. 8, Montana Governor Greg Gianforte sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland informing him the state will not enforce the recent ATF rule on pistol braces based on a state law prohibiting enforcement of some federal gun control that was passed in 2021.
