Pine Tree Ramblings Vol 12

Pine TreeSince 1981, October has been declared Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Given that, I feel obligated to provide a public service by highlighting NH State Senator Jeff Woodburn’s recent Domestic Violence charges.

In case you haven’t heard, Senator Woodburn has a bit of an anger management problem.  Sure, we all get angry, but we don’t “bite” or “strike” our intimate partner (fiancee) “in the stomach”.  Nor do we violently break down her door and enter without permission, something that brings the image of Jack Nicholson from The Shining to mind (can you say, “castle doctrine”)?

On its face, this is awful and inexcusable.  Woodburn is a big man with a lot of power.  But what burns me the most is the double-standard.  Let me rephrase that –> the ” Democrat double-standard “.

Woodburn has apparently been losing his temper with his fiancee since (at least) mid-2017 and she finally decided to report him.  Hearing that a warrant was issued for his arrest, he turned himself in at the Concord Police Station on Aug 2, 2018 and was subsequently charged with “criminal mischief”, “simple assault” and “domestic violence”.

That day, Democratic State Party Chair Ray Buckley (a man whose only standards appear to be double), called for Woodburn’s resignation.  Before we give Ray-Ray credit for doing the right thing, I think it’s safe to assume he was merely taking evasive action to minimize the outrage coming his way.  You see, Woodburn wasn’t just a State Senator, he was the sitting Senate Minority Leader.  Talk about pucker-factor.

Saying he would “defend himself in court”, Woodburn refused to resign his seat but did officially step down as the Minority Leader.  He also refused to disqualify himself in the upcoming Primary election in September, which, ironically, he won.  I’d really like to know why approximately 1,300 Democrats voted for this man over the write-in candidate (and why WMUR didn’t report the write-in total).

This week, Woodburn’s personal journals became available, providing a glimpse into the soul of the Senator and corroborating the charges against him.  In them, he admits to his anger and violence, asking himself why a man, at his age, cannot control his temper.

“I responded by kicking the door off the dryer, we have not communicated since that night, I feel bad about the whole thing,”

It’s great that he felt “bad [sic]” about this – but apparently not badly enough to stop his violent tendencies.  A subsequent entry reveals that he had yet another violent outburst on Christmas Eve, of all days.

“I’ve had a few explosive moments with (redacted) … it’s becoming regular and it scares me” … “Mind is sad and focused on my failure to control my anger”

“It just keeps repeating itself in my brain … 52 years old I need to grow up! I risk so much and hurt people who I should be loving.”

If Woodburn can’t control his own emotions with someone he supposedly “loves”, what does that say about his temperament while legislating?  In my opinion, he needs help, having a severe case of low self-esteem and some sort of chemical imbalance.  I suggest he find a good therapist who prescribes some medication and can help him find himself – before he turns into an 80-year-old loner talking to his pets.

But let’s talk about the Democrat double-standard.  Woodburn’s lawyer said, “I reiterate what the judge said in the order releasing the affidavit, which is that Jeff Woodburn is presumed innocent and everybody should presume that he’s innocent”.  She also said that “His case should not be tried in the court of public opinion but should be tried at his trial.

As usual, the Leftist hypocrisy is maddening.  These statements were made in the very shadow of last week’s public lynching of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.  Are only Democrats presumed innocent until proven guilty?  Can only Republicans be tried in the court of public opinion?  I seem to recall many New Hampshire Democrats making statements that contradict these notions, weighing in on Kavanaugh’s credibility (and guilt) before he even had a chance to make his statements. (Hassan, Kelly, Pappas)

Democrats are working very hard to tear this state and country apart – hoping to swoop in and gain control in the void – and until they learn to control their tempers and hypocrisy, they need to be thoroughly rejected.
