The ‘Grok generally doesn’t push outside-the-state race as a rule, but this one has a bit of a "point" to it – and I don’t like Chris Dodd. As most political junkies know, Senator Dodd was part of the infamous "Swimmer" Kennedy – hapless waitress – Chris "Friend of Angelo" Dodd sandwich (yeah, so much for respecting women. eh?) is in a fight for his political career. So he’s been pretty much a know-nothing / do-nothing (think Joe Biden without the humor). One of the most partisan Democrat Senators since, well, forever, he’s best known for receiving special financial favors for a "personalized" cut rate mortgage (allegedly, since he refused to release the paperwork) from the head of what used to be CountryWide Mortgage.
Well, last quarter, Dodd raised quite a bit of money. Problem is, only 5 Connecticut residents decided to give him money – all but a fraction was raised by giving from outside interests (much of it in the financial industry over which he has oversight – cozy, eh?). Not exactly a strong performance when what counts are the voters.
Anyways, he has a strong Republican challenger in Rob Simmons. How strong? Well, almost all of Rob’s support has been in-state and a lot of it has been online. So, his campaign is running a "special"! They are trying to get 400 donors by midnight tonite. Yes, they’d love to raise $50,000 but they’d be happier to have a lot more online donors! So, do your part – couple bucks here, coupla there – adds up. But Simmons wants the bragging rights as to "more online support":
