McCain – the ship has turned around

Well, I really had wished that my radio co-host, Pat Hynes (and blogger outreach dude for the McCain campaign par exellence, had been at the show today – I really did want to tell him this in person….

At one point, I was torn between McCain, Rudy, and Fred – I finally settled on Fred as my candidate – I wanted to use the Primary to vote FOR someone as opposed to AGAINST someone and he came closest to my idea of a good conservative.  Well, it turned out that Fred bowed out, so did Rudy, and I got left with….me on the sidelines again?

I think my notions had changed concerning McCain during this period of time when he started to call himself a conservative, and others calling him a true conservative (to the point I wrote this and this).  Even those had Doug accusing me of McCain Derangement Syndrome (quelle droll!).  No, I was not bashing McCain; rather just going after the claim of being a real conservative.

Well, time has passed.  Lots of folks, including Romney, have now endorsed McCain – including a lot of conservatives whose values I do trust and do agree are truly conservative.  And I had this staring me in the face for more than a few weeks:

If I sit on my hands, or I withhold my vote, Obamillary will win.

So, do I do nothing because the nominee (and I do believe he will be the nominee on the Republican site) is not the perfect conservative?  Do I ignore the good as it is not perfect?

No, I will not.  Obamillary will be a disaster for the country as well as for the conservative movement.  The moral of the story is that next time, conservatives will have to do a better job of running candidates that can support conservative ideals AND be electable (yes Doug, you were right).

Pat, in the end, you have succeeded in reaching out to this blogger!

I endorse, and will support and work for Senator McCain as the Republican Presidential nominee!
