Data Point – Indirect vs Direct labor ratio?

That was the simple question I asked, when on my town’s budget committee, of the School Board.  How many actual workers that were doing teaching and how many were not (and thus, overhead)?  Most businesses know this number constantly in order to control costs – but government, unless watched like a hawk, will expand to just fit under taxpayer discomfort.  Problem is, there are many that wish to not talk about it.  So, are we the country of Big Government??

“China has only 31 government and party employees per thousand residents. The number of civil servants per thousand residents in France is 95, in the United States, 75, and in Germany 53.”

Er, yes. So, in your town, in your county, in your state, and our Federal Government; have we become overburdened?  Let me also remind you – while it didn’t immediately start, I kept asking that question and fighting over the definition to get real answers.  They came – even in my small town, the School Board started to announce reductions and those reductions were in the overhead staffs.

Try it sometime and keep up the pressure – sometimes, it pays to become a pain in the butt….
