If it doesn't fit the narrative, don't fret - smear! - Granite Grok

If it doesn’t fit the narrative, don’t fret – smear!

There is no doubt that here at the ‘Grok that we both support our troops and we support their mission.  With General Patraeus now telling the results of the surge to Congress, the anti-war and anti-Bush forces are stooping to the usual leftward tactic – smear’em.  Ignore them, contradict them.

Even when they have neither visited Iraq or heard the General’s testimony.  For a group that  overwhelmingly voted to let him lead the effort and let the surge begin, they are unable to use the meme of "he lied to us".  What’s left is indicative of what MoveOn.org did in the NYT.

Sorry, but this is simple kindergarten mentality showmanship – don’t bother me with facts from the guy in charge and whose life has been put on the line in service to his country for decades.  While I know that Generals do have to do politics, the vitriol leveled at him has been absurd.

Yet, I hear that military progress is now being made.  And being made in such a way that the sheiks in Anbar and other places are finally convinced that we have them in their best interest.  Which has made security room for the political process to begin.  The unfortunate thing is that these political baby steps are not being made in the Iraqi Parliament but at the grassroots level.  Frankly, while many a large decision can be made more swiftly at the top IF IT IS MADE, those at the grassroots level (especially in this tribal tradition) may be of longer and more lasting endurance.

This, I ask that you sign this petition from the Victory Caucus imploring our leaders to continue the surge and give the military the time and resources to succeed.

After all, if we surrender, Al Queda will have one.  No, we will not have lost the military war, but another example of how to break the American political will, will take its place in the history books.
