Lincoln Chafee – ‘Lets Go Metric!’

From the “No chance in Hell” department.

Lincoln Chafee, the former Republican, independent, senator and governor of Rhode Island, joined the race for the Democratic presidential nomination on Wednesday with a plea to change the way Americans measure stuff.

“Earlier, I said let’s be bold,” he said from George Mason University in Virginia. “Here’s a bold embrace of internationalism: Let’s join the rest of the world and go metric.

Hmmm. We’ve been “going metric” my entire life and all we’ve got to show for it (in the day-day world) are two-liter bottles of soda that go flat before you finish them. But hey, maybe this Republican, turned Independent, running for the Democrat presidential nomination, has the inside line?  (Be warned: he may change his mind and declare himself in favor of switching to fingers and palms by mid-summer if Joe Biden hasn’t enforced his claim on those by that time.)

I happened to live in Canada. And they’ve completed the process. Believe me, it’s easy. It doesn’t take long before 34 degrees is hot. Only Myanmar, Liberia and the United States aren’t metric, and it will help our economy.”

The American “change” to metric might scurry along faster if Chafee and company sold this as distance bigotry and demanded equality.  I’m sure the media would play along.
