Is Ann Kuster In on This Climate McCarthyism?

Was AL gore near South DakotaSomeone should ask New Hampshire congresswoman Ann Kuster if she agrees with the tactics of her Democrat colleague,  Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Arizona.  Rep. Grijalva sent a letter to 7 Universities in what can only be called an act of Climate McCarthyism.

The letter demands detailed financial information so that Rep Grijalva can examine it.  He would like to explain away unfavorable research results as the product of funding-bias.

“I write today because of concerns raised in a recent New York Times report,” Grijalva said in the letters, “and documents I have received that highlight potential conflicts of interest and failure to disclose corporate funding sources in academic climate research.”

Irony alert?

If federal grants are not buying the ‘Science’ Rep. Raul Grijalva seeks his conclusion appears to be that someone else has commissioned a different result.  The appropriate response to that is to intimidate the scientists and the universities that retain them.

Judith Curry, for example, is one of seven scientists under investigation — and she believes that humans are warming the planet but she’s just not sure how much.  Being “not sure’ was enough to earn her suspicion from the almighty overlords.

“Absolutely, this letter is intimidation,” said Curry, who has testified many times before Congress in her 33-year career, including last year in front of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

“When ‘witch hunts’ are deemed legitimate in the context of popular causes, we will have fully turned science into just another arena for the exercise of power politics,” Pielke wrote on a blog post the day after the letters were sent. “The result is a big loss for both science and politics.”

“It looks like I am up next for this ‘witch hunt,’” Curry said. “Roger Pielke Jr.’s accusation of McCarthyism seems spot on to me.”

Rep. Kuster has taken money from Rep Grijalva’s PAC and cosponsored bills with him.  I’d be interested to know if she thinks congress should be intimidating scientists who show even the slightest glimmer of deviation from the Democrat party line on climate.

Rep Kuster?  Are you a Climate McCarthyite as well?
