  • Brian Lawson made his mark during the NH primary with his NH Prez Watch blog. He now works with James Pindell at PolitickerNH. The Columbia Journalism Review, profiling the Internet family of sites catering to political junkies, now focusing on some 15 states, noted

The idea is to produce a must-read page for each state’s politicians and political professionals. That audience doesn’t need background or color. They need up-to-the-second news and gossip about their bosses, colleagues, and competitors. A Politicker story rarely holds more than one thought or interview. They can clock in at under fifty words.

We’ll discuss what Politicker has in store for the final stretch leading to the November elections. We’ll also get Brian’s take on the Bradley/ Shea Porter race  and, in a followup segment later in the hour, we’ll discuss the state of the Sununu/Shaheen US Senate race.

  • Orson Swindle, a decorated Vietnam War prisoner of war, was a Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission of the United States from December 18, 1997 to June 30, 2005. He had previously served as Assistant Secretary of Commerce during the Reagan Administration Swindle served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. After earning his wings in May 1964, he was stationed at MCAS Beaufort. On Feb. 1, 1966, he deployed with VMF(AW)-235 ("The Death Angels") to DaNang Air Base and flew more than 200 sorties in the Vought F-8E Crusader. On November 11, 1966, Capt. Swindle’s Crusader was shot down while on a mission over the Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam. It was his last scheduled flight. Captured by the North Vietnamese near the city of Vinh Linh, Capt. Swindle spent the next six years and four months being shuffled around various prison camps, including the notorious Hanoi Hilton complex. While in captivity, he shared a cell for 18 months with future senator and presidential candidate John McCain.

Presently, Mr. Swindle is a Senior Policy Advisor at the lobbying firm of Hunton & Williams in Washington, D.C.[2] His specific charge is within the firm’s Center for Information Policy Leadership, which was founded to “develop innovative, pragmatic approaches to privacy and information security issues from a business-process perspective while respecting the privacy interests of individuals.” Their clients include American Express, Eli Lilly, GE, Microsoft, and Wal-Mart.

  • Former Congressman Jeb Bradley, victorious in this week’s Republican primary, has earned the chance to retake NH’s 1st Congressional seat from Democrat Carol Shea Porter. We’ll ask Jeb what he attributes his victory to (besides the ‘Grok endorsement) and what his analysis of the results bodes for the November contest against Shea-Porter. With all of the newfound excitement within Republican ranks thanks to the Palin pick, things are suddenly looking up for the GOP– and it’s starting to look like it might help races up and down the ticket.

  • Open topics. Doug and Skip will try to touch on a couple of ongoing matters of interest. Phone calls are always welcome, by the way, at 603 527 1490.

  • Our friend Liz Mair is the Online Communications Director, eCampaign Division for the Republican National Committee. She’ll check in to discuss the RNC’s new radio ad (click here to listen) airing here in NH and elsewhere that highlights voters’ choice this election between real reform in Washington and more of the same, especially on the issue of government reform and pork-barrel spending.   While John McCain has never sought an earmark during his career, Barack Obama has requested nearly $1 billion in only three short years in the Senate. We’ll also touch on Obama and the economy– Liz will tell us what he really means when he pledges not to hike taxes on most Americans. We’ll most likely discuss the Palin phenomena as well.

It all starts at 9AM EST Saturday. Tune in if you’re in Central NH at NewsTalk 1490AM WEMJ or live on the ‘Net here… The best radio (in our humble opinions) anywhere…
