Pelosi’s one-eighty has turned a rebuke of antisemitism to an embrace as a matter of Democrat policy. An act of self-service rather than sacrifice. What could have been a hedge against hate has become another meaningless gesture that has promoted Ilhan Omar to the role of spokesperson for policy on Jews.
As Pelosi and company back off any statement about Ilhan Omar her pal Rashida Tlaib is setting the table for conversations to come. Moving forward any remark about antisemitism directed at Muslims will be framed as Islamophobic.
Ilhan Omar’s latest “wrong turn” came when she said that pro-Israel advocates have allegiance to Israel. It’s an old trope. One that rubs plenty of Jews the wrong way regardless of political party. And just the latest of Omar’s antisemitic remarks. It is a problem that has put Nancy Pelosi at odds with her caucus.
