MacDonald: Are Memes the ‘Page 3’ Girls of the Blogging World?

In November of 1970, The Sun (UK) began posting large pictures of topless glamour models on the third page of its tabloid. Readership soared, as did the practice among other British “news” tabloids. I’m not sure how the women felt about it, but men in England were buying newspapers to see these lovely ladies and, maybe, getting a bit of news or information in the process.

GraniteGrok achieved significant success growing in leaps and bounds up until the censorship industrial complex (Facebook first) stamped its jackboot on our “circulation” in February of 2019. Feb 11, 2019, to be exact, and it continued into COVID and the Biden era, which we know now was coordinated by the deep state FBI and the Biden White House—actual election tampering and government censorship.

Facebook has relented somewhat since Trump’s re-election, and Big Tech is being somewhat less censorious, but the damage was done, and I’ve discussed the journey to rectify that in numerous posts and fundraising requests. We’ve recovered a fraction of that audience. We’ve also eased some language restrictions on our content, and the groomers forced us to have to talk about and share sexually-focused content and images we’d not likely have in the past, but we never considered page 3 girls.

We’ve got memes, instead. Three times a week.

I’m serious.

Meme posts are consistently among the most popular, serving as a way to attract new readers to the website and encourage them to explore the more substantial content. I sense that this works everywhere it’s tried, so here I am giving away the secret ingredient to the secret sauce. Memes drive traffic, which is beneficial for our authors, as they gain more visibility for their content, attracting fans of their preferred topics or style.

And it works. We’ve more readers engaging with all of our content, which is driving growth for both the brand and our audience.

So, thank you, memes. What started as a palate cleanser of sorts to make things not so serious all the time in an often somber world has turned out to have the same effect as topless glamour models. And no, we’re not going to try that. We will continue to post memes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and only memes (with the occasional ad or request for financial support in between – Steve needs to keep the website running).

Memes are our page 3 girls in a world where page 3 girls are covering up.

I don’t know, that just struck me as amusing.
