Learn Everywhere? No – you MUST learn HERE!

Chains, children, shackle, slave

The Learn Everywhere program was an innovative program passed into law that allowed the Commissioner and Board of Education to create rules that allowed curriculum performed outside of the classroom to count for High School credit. Each School District, if the rules were adopted, would be ‘forced’ to accept said credits, even if performed by unaccredited teachers, outside of a school, by non-union members. Democrats have been hell bent on blocking this program from taking effect. Learn Everywhere? No- you MUST learn HERE (in Government run schools!)

In addition to their apparent hatred for School Choice, Charter Schools, Vouchers, and Private/Religious Schools – Democrats even hate that public school students may get the opportunity to learn from someone the union doesn’t control. To them, students are merely fiscal units. The students belong to the unions.

Frank Edelblut, New Hampshire’s Commissioner of Education, has been a champion of improving educational opportunities for Granite State students. He procured a grant for $46 million to fund new Charter Schools – that was killed by Democrats. He has championed Education Savings Accounts, a key priority for Governor Sununu, that would give parents and families the ultimate decision making power in where/how their children receive their education.

Democrats aren’t alone in opposing pro-children, pro-education programs and policies of course. Some Republicans, like Steve Duprey, were Directors with groups like Reaching Higher New Hampshire. These groups actively campaigned against Governor Sununu’s policy initiatives, especially the Education Savings Accounts. Steve Duprey is the National Committeeman from New Hampshire for the Republican National Committee. He’s facing a challenge this year after his repeated “blunders” for which he’s had to repeatedly “apologize.” He’s getting a “helping hand” from ‘Republicans’ like former Speaker Jasper, who wasn’t all that helpful in getting Education Savings Accounts passed either.

This year, 11 democrats have proposed a bill that will remove the legislative authority to implement Learn Everywhere. This comes on the heels of the decision of JLCAR to not approve the BoE rules adopted. JLCAR dumping on the rules adopted by the Board of Education doesn’t stop the program, though, it just passes the liability to the Board of Education itself. So, Democrats must do away with the whole damn thing.

HB1454 repeals the provision in RSA that allows for these rules. Rules that help students. Rules that help parents. Rules that help education. Education is the whole point, right?

How parents of students could ever support anti-education democrats is beyond me. I, personally, could never support a legislator that voted so often against the best interests of my child. I could never vote for a legislator that would vote to take away my parental control over which education is best for our family.

There is not a one size fits all solution to educating our students. There are many sizes, many fits. It is incumbent on the Board of Education, parents, teachers, and administrators to work together to ensure that every student is getting a proper education. Where that happens, or how they learn, shouldn’t be as black and white or brick-and-mortar as any RSA that a legislator could come up with, period.
