Chris Pappas Is “Out of Touch” on Immigration

Chris Pappas and Annie Kuster

A recent email sent to my “representative” in Congress included the following:

“Let’s look at the top five records you’ve shattered since this Congress began:

  • Number 1 – You’ve allowed OVER 2 MILLION personally, medically, and criminally unvetted illegal aliens to break into our country, the MOST EVER!
  • Number 2 – You’ve allowed fentanyl to flow freely over our unsecured southern border, killing more young Americans than we lost during the entire Vietnam war!
  • Number 3 – You’ve sold, wasted, and depleted our strategic petroleum reserves faster and more recklessly than at any time in our history.
  • Number 4 – You’ve allowed an epidemic of rampant violence and lawlessness to spread across our country at a level not seen in decades.
  • Number 5 – You’ve wastefully spent us into a financial crisis that has resulted in record inflation, rising interest rates, and skyrocketing consumer prices. A combination that is financially crushing hard-working Granite Staters.”

As usual, he didn’t actually read my email, his minions did. However, even they only read as far as my first concern, reflexively sending me the prepackaged “immigration talking point” response letter. It, of course, was devoid of any actual thought, care, or concern. As usual, the letter was full of the standard opening and closing platitudes meant to assure me that he truly cared about my opinion and concerns. However, after reading the few paragraphs pertaining to his view on immigration, I knew I had to respond.

His dishonest and disingenuous comparison between legal and illegal immigration had to be called out.

“Dear Chris,

Your response to my factual email, regarding your top five failures to your constituents, was nothing short of pathetic, sanctimonious, condescending, and above all else completely false.

More accurately, it was the usual bovine excrement expected from an insulated and out-of-touch politician.

In your ridiculous email, which addresses only one of my five concerns, you say:

“The United States is a nation of immigrants, and I believe that we are strengthened by people like my ancestors who arrived in America seeking a better life. I am the beneficiary of the journey, struggle, and hard work of my immigrant ancestors, and they allowed generations of my family to find opportunities and achieve the American Dream.

Those same doors of opportunity should be available to today’s immigrants, especially for those seeking refuge from violence and oppression. In order to do so, we must pass comprehensive, bipartisan immigration reform that supports our economy, our safety, and our American values. I believe we must show compassion for the Dreamers and immigrants with deep ties to our communities and our country and provide a pathway to citizenship for those who are contributing and playing by the rules.

We can achieve immigration reform while also ensuring that our nation remains safe, strong, and prosperous. I strongly support smart border security and am committed to ensuring that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has the necessary resources to accomplish its mission. We must expand our investment in technology and manpower, especially at checkpoints where illegal drugs are brought into our country.”

Blah, blah, blah, same ole, same ole political TALK without any ACTION!

News flash, that’s not what’s happening today on our southern border, that is called an ILLEGAL INVASION. Something you’re supposed to STOP, not encourage.

Chris, did your ancestors come to this country illegally, and then expect the American taxpayers to support them?”

I know that my ancestors came to this country LEGALLY.

They worked hard, followed the rules, and became American citizens, LEGALLY.

They wanted to do the right thing.

They wanted to ASSIMILATE into our society, not be ACCOMMODATED by it.

If you don’t understand the difference, I’m happy to break it down for you.

I don’t know about your ancestors, but mine didn’t bring drugs, dependency, violence, crime, human trafficking, along with all the other myriad problems that YOUR ILLEGAL open border policies are allowing.

Also, what about those pursuing LEGAL immigration, why do they have to wait?

Why are you punishing those who obey our laws, while rewarding those who break them?

Also, please spare me the dribble about how you’re working on “comprehensive immigration reform”, that’s a political talking point older than you are.

More lies are not what this country needs, we need leaders, and you’ve proven that you’re not one”

I know that my immigrant ancestors would not be pleased with what we’ve done with the country they adopted, loved, and fought for.
