A Short 9-11 Reminiscence

I was unemployed at the time of 9-11.  I was home, working on job applications when I got a call from Satan’s Favorite Daughter, i.e., my first wife (no, I’m not bitter, why do you ask?).  She told me to go look at the news.

I remember thinking that this could not have been an accident after the second plane hit the tower.  Even the first, hitting so squarely into the tower, had to have been aimed.  My first thought was that it was Islamic.  Had to be Islamic.  I was right.  And my next thought was NUKE MECCA alongside every major city in whatever-country-harbored-these-people.  In particular, Mecca’s utter ruin would have shown, demonstratively, that Allah was the second fiddle.  But noooo, we had to have the kid gloves on.

Now, just as a thought experiment: imagine if the terrorists had targeted the Kremlin and other iconic Russian places.  Uh huh.  The pools of glass where Afghan cities had been would still be glowing.

(Been here – Saint Basil’s cathedral – very impressive in person!)

But there was an awakening too.  I’d not truly been aware of Islam’s predatory history through the ages (I am not saying that other religions and cultures were pure-white innocent).  I had not known the depths of Islamic Jew-hatred and how it’s hard-coded into the Koran.

I had not known of Islam’s relentless attacks on the West and how the Crusades were not aggression against “peaceful” Muslims but a reaction against centuries of relentless waves of attacks.

There was a second awakening as well. Although I’d come to realize there were differences in the way I thought from the way those on the Left thought, I still believed there was a lot of common ground – just different perspectives and decisions on the way to a mutually understood goal.  But after the initial rush of patriotism and love of America came out, I started to notice the raw & seething hatred they had for America (specifically) and Western Civilization (in general) – e.g., the “Little Eichmanns” quote, amongst a legion of similar statements.  As Evan Sayet said (bolding added):

I tell a story. It’s not a true story, but it helps crystallize my thinking that brought me to become a conservative. I say: Imagine being in a restaurant with an old friend, and you’re catching up, and suddenly he blurts out, “I hate my wife.” You chuckle to yourself because he says it every time you’re together, and you know he doesn’t hate his wife; they’ve been together for 35 years. He loves his daughters, and they’re just like her. No, he doesn’t hate his wife.

So you’re having dinner, and you look out the window and spot his wife, and she’s being beaten up right outside the restaurant. You grab your friend and say, “Come on, let’s help her. Let’s help your wife,” and he says, “Nah, I’m sure she deserves it.” At that moment, it dawns on you: He really does hate his wife.

That’s what 9/11 was to me. For years and years I’d hear my friends from the Left say how evil and horrible and racist and imperialistic and oppressive America is, and I’d chuckle to myself and think, “Oh, they always say that; they love America.” Then on 9/11, we were beaten up, and when I grabbed them by the collar, and I said, “Come on, let’s help her. Let’s help America,” and they said, “Nah, she deserves it.”

At that moment, I realized: They really do hate America.

The Left hates America because we’re not Socialist, and wants to see us destroyed – and thus their greatest roadblock is gone.  Islam hates America because we’re in the House of War, and wants to see us destroyed – and thus their greatest roadblock is gone.

No wonder they’re allies.

Almost 3,000 people paid the price, but I and many others are now awake.  And we’re pissed.

(Note: I found it very interesting that I was unable to find any free-to-use image of the towers collapsing for the header image.  No matter what combination of search terms I tried… nothing.  It’s as though the enemedia deliberately doesn’t want us to remember… so remember how fast images like the falling man and others were pulled to avoid “emotional trauma”?  Almost. )
