Hanover School District – I Finally Get a Response Back from the Superintendent

Hanover High School Logo

Finally, an update to my (now) series on  Janice “I’m interrupting you. You are not allowed to talk. People like you that have views like you are not allowed to do what you’re doing, I’ve been trained to interrupt you.“ Starkey.

The last episode was me submitting an RSA 91:A demand to the District which I posted here: Hanover School District – I’ve Been Nice but Now It Is Time to Not Be Nice.”

I really don’t like being “not nice” but when you’ve tried to be nice and nothing comes of it, it comes time to raise the temperature. So I did – to 14. Fourteen separate questions, albeit interrelated, as to “who, what, when, where, why, and how?” I think I covered most of the bases but I’m sure that I’ll have a few to come up with for a full explanation.

Now, given that I sent it to the School Board (who, after all, are responsible for EVERYTHING that goes on in the District), I got an answer. Actually, two responses:

Dear Mr. Murphy:

I acknowledge receipt of your June 8, 2021 e-mail with its 14 requests made pursuant to NH RSA 91-A [The Right-to-Know Law].   Pursuant to RSA 91-A:4(IV)(b) this letter shall serve as your five business day response.  Several of your questions do not relate to specific documents.  Based on the breadth and nature of your requests, and the fact that the last two weeks of the school year are extremely busy, we anticipate that it will take at least 20 business days to respond to your request, again because many of the items you request are not kept in dedicated files and will require both digital and manual searches at both the SAU and school level in order to determine the extent to which we have responsive documents.  We will keep you informed of our efforts and will let you know when the records are available.

 Respectfully,

Jay

Well, 20 biz days – that’ll be July 20th. And I am wondering which of my questions “do not relate to specific documents” – that could have been over and done with.  But I emailed back and said thanks and got another one back from Dr. Badams. Apparently, in starting the due diligence required to satisfy my Right To Know, he started reaching out to staff members and found out I had been asking for a bit of time:

Dear Skip,

We continue to compile the documents that you have requested, and in doing so I understand that you have reached out to a number of our staff seeking information about an incident that happened at the February 25 Ray School PTO meeting.

Ayup, I did. After all, that “incident” made news as NH State Senator Kevin Avard talked about it on his CCTV show. So lots of people know about what happened. But Get this:

While the employee you have inquired about was present at that meeting, she was there in her capacity as a parent member of the PTO.  The training that she referenced was intended as a way to stand up for students during incidents of bullying, not to inhibit or prevent the expression of conflicting opinions during respectful dialogue.  I will be sure to highlight the details of that training when I have all of your requested information compiled.

Take care,

Jay

The problem for Dr. Badams is that Janice Starkey DIDN’T say it to a student, or a group of students.  She said it to a grown man and ONLY after that gentleman said that he supported HB544 which would withhold any tax monies from Government agencies and subdivision of the State for instruction on Critical Race Theory (which holds that ALL Whites are Racists and Oppressors).

I will be rather interested in how the responses will go from Point A to Point Somewhere. It’s at least clear to me that what was said and what Dr. Badams is holding isn’t holding water.

To Be Continued…
