The ACLU Completes Its Journey to Dark Side – Sues Private Citizen to Keep Them from Obtaining Public Records.

Lego Storm troopers

The American Civil Liberties Union went off the rails years ago, but I think they’ve completed walking the path to the dark side. They are suing a private citizen to stop them from accessing public records relating to prison inmates.

Why would the ACLU do such a thing? Partisan politics, naturally.

In a follow-up comment, WoLF observes that “The @ACLU regularly uses FOIA requests. @ACLU_WA specifically advocated for the expansion of the WA Public Records Act stating, “Transparency is at the heart of democracy.”

You’d think that knowing how many men were inmates in women’s detention facilities would be the very definition of “Trans-parency” but not so much. Not according to the ACLU.

The citizen, a woman who has asked not to be named for her safety, submitted the public records request on March 18, 2021. She is now being represented by WoLF in responding to the lawsuit. … The Washington Public Records Act guarantees that citizens have the right to access public records, and requires the government to respond to requests within five days. Only personal student or patient information, employee files, and some investigative records are exempt.

I guess ACLU now stands for stuff Americans Can’t Look Up.

These left-wing activists have, like the mega-media corporations, switched from watchdog to guard dog. Not even reliable defenders of free speech, the ACLU have abandoned the last vestige of their original purpose.

From defending civil liberties to opposing them.
