Pelosi Is Wrong. She Has Been Wrong for the Last 204+ Years

Non sequitur

The Speaker of the House is instigating extraordinary action. She is refusing entry to the House Chambers to members of the House of Representatives. They must submit to searches for weapons or be subject to fines up to $10,000.

Starting next week, lawmakers that refuse to go through new metal detectors to enter the House chamber face a ban. If they do enter armed they face fines. Pelosi made the assertion in a statement:

“It is tragic that this step is necessary, but the chamber of the People’s House must and will be safe…”

Pelosi is wrong. She has been wrong for the last 204+ years. Many members verbally took it out on Capitol Police for asking them to go through the metal detectors. This is an entirely understandable response.

You can’t fix stupid

Stop and think about what went on recently. The capitol police lost control of the chamber. They were demonstrably unable to maintain safety and security for the chamber. Why should the members not have the right to keep and bear arms? Most especially knowing the current state of affairs?

The members of Congress were put at risk by the negligence of the government. Capitol Security demonstrably failed to provide security for either people or property. Because of that, the members of Congress should be prohibited from personal protection? What kind of idiots did we elect to Congress?

Members of Congress are typically given a pass at security in the Capitol complex. They simply show their lawmaker pins. The new security measure went into effect Tuesday. It contradicts logic. This is pointedly true following last week’s security breach. The only reason you disarm people is if you intend to harm them and don’t want them to fight back.

Acting House Sergeant-at-Arms Timothy Blodgett wrote in a memo to lawmakers and staff: “To ensure compliance with Capitol Police Board regulations concerning firearms and incendiary devices, as well as to provide a safe and secure environment in which to conduct legislative business, effective immediately, all persons, including Members, are required [to] undergo security screening when entering the House chamber,”

Congress follows not to the constitution… but security fears

Since when, in America does the “acting House Sergeant at Arms” get to make the rules for the House of Representatives? It seems very illogical to take such action at this point in time… most especially from a failed agency. Do you know of any reports of members of Congress harming either the public or Capitol Security?

It was the Capitol Security security people who lost control last week. Because they were without proper preparation and/or staffing; security now wants to disarm the people they protect. Why is that? How does this make sense? Those with injuries and the dead argue for the need for self-protection. The violence and loss of control does not argue for disarming Representatives. It is the Representatives who may feel a need for personal protection.

Two Capitol Police officers are on suspension as a result of last week’s security breach. One officer was seen taking a selfie with a rioter. The other was directing the mob to enter the Capitol.

It’s the second time in as many days that House Democratic leaders are imposing fines to force Republicans to comply. It contradicts Biden’s (cough-cough) policy of “unity and healing“. House Democrats are adopting new rules mandating masks on the House floor.

Their message is clearly saying SUBMIT AND COMPLY OR WE WILL MAKE YOU. Game on.
