Birmingham, England, is the place that Khalid Masood chose to settle a few years ago, after ‘studying’ in Saudi Arabia, and is where he became further steeped in Islam, until he finally grabbed his knives, rented an SUV, and headed for Westminster Bridge and Parliament.
Muslims traveling from and through Europe, on EU passports, say it is well known that “Birmingham is the best place to be pure Muslim!” That is, not only will you be allowed to practice your faith, but you can have very little contact with the civic and legal structure of a Western state. As these enclaves become Muslim majority, non-Muslims leave, and emergency services become reluctant to enter –
even if not called “No-Go” zones, they are to all intents and purposes just that. Birmingham was (is?) the home of “Operation Trojan Horse,” a scheme to immerse the city’s schoolchildren in Sunni Islam (The Guardian doesn’t name Wahabism, but appears to be describing it).
McCarthy reminds us that the problem isn’t individual Muslims, lots of whom desire peaceful coexistence, even assimilation, but that Islam’s aim is to prevail: It is not non-Western. It is anti-Western. As Muslim Brotherhood founder Hassan Al-Banna proclaimed, Islam is content with nothing less than political, cultural, and civilizational dominance.
The fatal conceit of many in government, especially the left, is that Islam is just another culture thrown into the melting pot, but Islam does not separate mosque from state; the mosque is every bit as much a center for sharia indoctrination, assimilation resistance, and anti-Western politics as it is a prayer venue. This movement does not want cohabitation. It wants conquest. It starts with assimilation-resistant enclaves that nurture sharia supremacism today and thereby breed the jihadists of tomorrow.
Perhaps you’ll see mosques a little more skeptically in future, especially if you also read the linked articles on NRO and The Guardian (not exactly a rabid right wing rag).
